Default Edward Did The National Anthem?

Someone told me that there is a performance out there where Eddie does the National Anthem. Is this true and does anyone know how to access it?

I know it was played as a band intro on the 1991-1992 tour. Didn't he play it off-stage before they came on or something like that?

Yes, they (in fact it was only Ed alone) opened every show of the FUCK-Tour in '91-'92 with the national anthem.
After that Sam threw in "Hello Baby" and Ed would go into Poundcake.

I didn't listen to it in a while but I'm pretty sure it was Ed playing live because it was a little different each time if I remember correctly.
The band always made "noise" before they started and played some weird stuff so it's no surprise that happened.

I have heard Eddie slip in Beethoven's Fur Elise during a solo, so anything's possible.

Eddie Van Halen is a very good guitar player.

It didn't start that way in Montreal in 1991.

Richard Wagner's "Ride Of The Valkyries" was playing during the intro (when the lights went down).

I seem to recall this partic anthem when the lights went down during the FUCK tour. Awesome, btw.

w/b great if he had actually played (and recorded) the entire thing tho like Hendrix.

I remember this vividly. Almost positive it was the Hendrix recording, or at least a recording. It had the same sound volume and quality as the tunes they were playing on the sound system during set up.

Whoever ran that preshow build up was a genius. I remember the crowd starting to get fired up, and even going into the wave at one point. The anthem kicked on at exactly the right time to maximize the frenzy, then when the house lights went down, the place was already completely worked into a lather. I've never seen anything like it - not even since then with Van Halen.

That was almost a perfect night. Had my girlfriend (now wife) in a miniskirt with no underwear, first time I was ever on the floor for a concert (15th row or something), packed house at the Worcester Centrum, which has decent sound - was just fucking magical. You know, I was so exhausted after the show, and it was an hour and 20 minute ride home, I don't even know if I got laid. Didn't matter.

I saw 6 shows on Carnal Knowledge tour. Everyone of them had a Zep tune, I'm pretty sure black dog (though i do remember the show in Louisville having a different tune maybe rock n roll), then Hendrix's National Anthem play over the house speakers prior to the start of the show. I know Ed didnt play it because the last show of the tour in Ft Wayne Indiana I was on the of the stage in the first row and could see the band backstage before the entered. Ed wasnt playing anything as the national anthem played.

Now that being said, I'm sure at some point Ed played the National ANthem and id love to hear it.

I've always heard it was Hendrix from Woodstock.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

It was Ed in Cleveland. He didn't make it nearly as psychedelic as the Hendrix Version. It was pretty straightforward.

Eddie played it at the COSTA MESA show, then Sammy yelled GOD BLESS AMERICA! and Poundcake began!
