Default Had to Return my Father's Day Gift.

The wife was really cool and purchased a Seagul acoustic guitar for me from www.music123.com.

I love the look and sound of the guitar, but the nut width is 1.80....not sure how that ranks for acoustics, but it's like a baseball bat in my hands.

I'm looking for an acoustic...small in size overall and the neck has to be on the thin side....I'm mainly electric, but like to strum a few Petty tunes now and then.

    I'm looking for some suggestions.

Dude I have a martin ooo 15 and it plays great. the neck feels about the same as an electric. Im not sure what they cost these days but I think you can get one for about 550 to 650. And its a Martin, great guitar, satin finish and everything. I just played it at the beach a couple of weeks ago and it performed very well( me and my uncle are a blues acoustic duo). Im telling you this is a cool guitar.

I'm all with Shred on this one, Jimmy. Martin's making some outstanding, AFFORDABLE acoustics these days - not much more than the Seagull stuff, and, even though they're Martin's lower line of stuff, they're still world-class guitars. Just can't beat 'em for the money. I've been wanting one of these for quite some time now...

This thing plays like a DREAM. The model that's even kewler is the one exactly like this but with a cedar top, but I can't seem to find it on Musician's Friend right now...

Anyway, it's killer. If you get a chance, hop down to the local axehouse and check one out...

I liked the way the Seagul sounded, but couldn't get past the wide neck on it. I couldn't even play some licks with the different string spacing and it was just hard for me wrap my hands around the neck.

Is there a Martin model that has a smaller neck....should I be looking for a measurement at the nut...like 1 11/16.

I thought the seagul was 1.8.

I have a Wolfgang now and an old Hondo acoustic that has a really small neck on it.....and that's what I like.

I like the Martin's you've suggested, but can we go one step further and talk about necks.

Yup the Martins are good these days. I think as far as necks go you're going to have to find the one you want. The Martins I've played all feel different, even the same models. My dad has 3 and they're all different, but the necks are all on the smallish side.

Martin's have WAY thinner necks. I have a Seagull S6C, but
I prefer a bigger neck (I like the Fender Jeff Beck strat neck from the mid-90s).

For the money and value, if you can get past the matte mahogany color, I would spring for a Martin D-15. All solid wood--top, neck, sides. A great
    sounding guitar.

    Best of luck.

    Thanks guys.

The Seagul went back two days ago.

Had a cool sound, but felt like I had the leg of a table in my hands.

I think I'll play some in person this weekend....get the low down on the necks, in person, and make a decision then.
