    2006 NBA Offseason Thread

    ESPN.com news services

The New York Knicks fired coach Larry Brown on Thursday, replacing him as coach with president and general manager Isiah Thomas.

"Larry has had a long and storied career. We hired him last summer with the expectation that he would be with the Knicks for a long time. Sometimes decisions work and sometimes they don't," MSG Chairman James L. Dolan said. "After careful consideration, despite the best intentions from everyone involved, this current structure did not work for us last season and I did not think it was going to improve next season."

Thomas, who joined the Knicks as president and general manager on Dec. 22, 2003, previously served as a head coach with the Indiana Pacers for three seasons from 2000-01 through 2002-03. His Pacers teams were 131-115 record, making the playoffs in each of his three seasons.

"No one in our organization is happy with last season and we all accept responsibility for our performance," Thomas said. "This has been a difficult time for the entire organization and our fans. Today begins the 2006-07 season for the Knicks, and I strongly believe we are on the right track to take major steps in our rebuilding process to achieve our goal of being one of the premier teams in the NBA."

Glad he finally fucked over another team. My Sixers haven't been right in years.

LMAO! Yeah Isiah's gonna do a better job. Do you realize how bad the Knicks are going to be this season with Isiah running everything? They will be 100x worse. Man that's going to be a fun trainwreck to watch.

Other than the KC Royals, I just can't think of a worst franchise in all of the four major leagues. Just a disgrace.

I think the Royals might actually have a better organization.

That's good for Brown. I think another year in NY woulda killed the guy. Well, Isiah made his bed, now he gets to sleep in it. Let's see if he can coach this team of overrated millionaires. Trainwreck, I think is an understatement.

If you consider their Minor League talent, they're going to be a LOT more successful in the next three years than the Knicks.

Oh who knows? Maybe he can get a couple more point guards to make things right.

The Knicks really need Jeff Van Gundy.
I'll pitch is $1 to get him there too.

Isiah is a JOKE, he has NO business being in any front office or coaching position.

Hiring Isiah is the death blow.

Jesus Christ, how did I NOT see the Isiah thing coming? Really, you HAD to know this was going to happen, and it blindsided me!

Question: Who has the bigger ego--Brown, or Thomas?

I feel your pain McQueen. I myself am a Laker fan just because they were my favorite team growing up, regardless of location. My Dad, on the other hand, is faithful to Golden State, and I pity him sometimes. His only memory of any "glory days" that he can hang his hat on is that '75 championship season. That's a lot of talent they've come across over the years, they just can't seem to ever make the pieces fit.
