SCENE: Letís talk Van Halen. You toured with the band in 2004, and your solo show includes Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony. Yet the bandís official status is unclear. Do you tire of the back-and-forth?

HAGAR: Yeah. Back then, I thought a reunion had to happen. [David Lee] Rothís out there right now saying itís inevitable that thereís gonna be a Van Halen reunion. I donít really think there is with him, and I donít think there is with me, either. I think Van Halen might be done. I shouldnít say that, because itís not what Iím looking for. But, man, it donít work. Onstage we did a pretty good job last time; Iím not saying it was horrible onstage. But in between shows and offstage, trying to travel togetherówe had two different airplanes, two different dressing rooms on each side of the building. Every night I had to say, ďIs Eddie [Van Halen] on stage yet?Ē I wouldnít even go out there till he was onóthatís how capable he was of not making it. And thatís no way to do it.

SCENE: Sounds like the opposite of your experience on the road with your own act.

HAGAR: You hit it right on the head. Thatís why Michaelís out there with me. Weíre going, ďMan, we should be the happiest people on the planet, considering what we got.Ē I was hoping the last reunion was gonna be great, but it got uglier and uglier the longer it went. So Iím not gonna sit around and wait for things to change. I gotta play every year. This is what I do.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, ďTokyo Dome In Concert,Ē is available for purchase, and itís super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

That's a no-no in the Halen-Camp in their War Against Reunion. If you're not with them, then you're with the terrori . . . I mean against them.

I bet everyone, that Sammy is going to call Kenny and ask him in what shape is Eddie.
Maybe after hearing good things from him, Sammys mind can change.

I really hope Eddie got pumped up after his appearance with Kenny and wants to release new music and go on tour, whoever is the singer.

Ya'know what?......Sammy needs to shut his fucking mouth......I was never one to get into who I liked better....or what era was better......huge fan of both.....but I can know longer stomach any more of Hager's bullshit......he takes a shot at Ed any chance he gets, and it's getting old.....he sounds like a very bitter man......I used to like him.....but after that whine-fest, crybaby crap on that VH1 show I saw last week.....and add that he just can't seem to avoid taking cheap shot at the man who made him a household name.....the chessy-ass bastard turns my gut......

    Hey, Red Rocker..........go away......

I'm not really sure why folks can't stomach what Sam's saying.

    It's the truth....from Sam's perspective.

How about Ed ragging on Mike and Sam for being out on the road when he's in the studio....or Ed ragging on Sam's work ethic during the making of Balance.

What's so wrong with answering a question honestly. When did being honest and telling your side of the story become a problem?

I guess it would be better if before the interview, Sam requested that no question be asked regarding Van Halen.....but how lame is that.....VH is A LOT of the reason he still has a career today. If he's asked a question about VH he needs to answer it as honestly as he can.

Because people have a hard time accepting the fact that sometimes heroes fall.

Given all reported evidence to date, whether rumor or biased or secondhand, it's become fairly obvious the main source of disharmony in the land of Halen is our favorite guitarist. For whatever rhyme or reason.

Though it's plain to see, if Ed ever grants a full length in depth interview to somebody and lays it all out on the table, how many folks hereabouts are gonna jump on his bandwagon no matter how outlandish or improbable his opinions are.

All I know is, the guy who flipped me off in Vegas in '04 wasn't the same guy who bounced around the stage happy slappy on the Diver tour.

Then again, age, the perils of modern life, and addiction will do that to a man.

I think the shoe is on the other foot here. IMO, among other things, Sam and Ed burned each other out in the 90's (more specifically, between LRHRN and Balance). Sam wanted to spend time w/his family back then, went through the divorce thing, new marriage and baby, now he's got his shit straightened out and he's having fun touring. Ed's life has similarly been turned upside down in recent years, and his motivation for doing anything is at an all-time low (although the Chesney sighting is a nice change). So, all this back-and-forth, he said this, and he doesn't want to do that is bullshit to me. Emotionally, Sammy's been there himself, he knows what "life" is about, so I think he has to take this into consideration before he pipes in on the state of Ed and the band.

Don't get me wrong here - I'm not trying to start a "Sammy sucks" vs "Sammy's the greatest" thread here. I love what the guy did in Van Halen, and I would love to see a reunion w/either Sam or DLR, but this guy has to remember what kicked his career into another gear (and it wasn't no damn "I Can't Drive 55" shit, either). I would like to see or hear him for once currently acknowledge the fact that his being in Van Halen was a major factor in where he is today. Van Halen is not a stepping-stone for anyone.

I don't think it's so much that Sam is ragging on Eddie. Imagine that you are Sam and you go in for these interviews (which seem to be more and more common, ARMBI) and every single time they ask you about Van Halen. Obviously it's a huge part of your career and obviously he's not best friends with Eddie, but don't you think it's a little annoying to him to be asked the same thing every time?
