    Default Rare VH 1??

    Hi, Everyone-

This is a neat VH fan site and I'm happy to say "hey"! I have been a devout fan since the Whisky days, and am glad we can still discuss this incredible band here.

Was wondering if anyone knows whether or not a VH 1 album that was released in 1977 instead of 1978 is "rare"? The one I have (I believe) is from Germany, (tho printed in english?) has a black and white inner sleeve instead of color, and to top it off, it is signed by all four original members.

Seeing as the VH 1 album wasn't released here in the States until '78, I am very curious to learn more about this, especially since it is a signed version of what might (I am assuming) be a rare piece. Thanks much for any insight!!

Could of been released to Europe first as Queensryche's Mindcrime 2 was this year?

I really don't know to be honest, that's why I'm asking. The VH-1 album was recorded in 1977 sometime, but it's sketchy as to exactly when. Also it was released in 1978 in the USA, some say Feb 10, some say April, depends on who you listen to--more grey area....cannot find anything concrete. I will keep digging, thanks for your input.

    Welcome aboard.

I think you'll enjoy a lot of the conversation but you'll be amazed at how many threads turn into Sammy vs. Dave debates. It's a pretty amazing phenomenon around here.

Oh, and most of us like to pretend VH3 never happened.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Is this really the full Van HALEN 1 album, or is it the advance EP that was issued to radio stations in late 1977. Probably had 4 songs on it.

Since it's a first edition vinyl with all 4 signatures, it's definitely worth something in either case, but I don't know of any release of the full album in 1977.

    Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!

...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

No, it's not a pre-release, it's the full album with all 11 songs. Says on the bottom back cover it was "made in Germany by WEA Musik GmbH" has a copyright "C" mark and "1977 Warner Bros records Inc" instead of "1978" like my USA version. But like I said, it is in english too... Has "WB 56470" in the upper corner, a "Z" with a circle around it, and under that it says "France: WE341"

It is VERY curious, and I'd like to find out more about it. I will certainly be hanging onto this one for awhile either way tho! Thanks for the thoughts and input.

Thanks, man! I dug a bit more and only "probable" info I can find so far is that the album itself is "probably" in fact german,(by the "WEA Musik GMBH") and "probably" released in 1978, tho it may certainly have been printed in 1977.

The weird thing that originally caught my eye was the "1977" on the back instead of the "1978" like my USA version, and the inner sleeve pics being black and white instead of color. Signatures are indeed authentic, which is way cool in itself.

my record store guy says he has heard of a 1977 pressing before but has never seen or had one on hand but it does exist.
he maybe suggested it was an inital pressing of a euro release or it just could be something else all together. sorry man for the lame info. he is going to try and contact his bro who is overseas who could possibly also contact someone closer to the euro source.

Thanks Revman, just trying to pick up any info I can. I also recently found out that VH did in fact tour Germany but not until 78, where they fronted Sabbath. Also, WEA Musik promoted the hell out of it and VH to add more fuel to the tour. I'm thinking the pressing of this album was done some time prior to it's actual release by Waner Bros/WEA Musik. I have seen others recently on other websites so I know they are out there, I just don't know of any being signed by all four of the guys so am curious to see if I may indeed have something a "little out of the ordinary".
