Default Edward Van Halen is a "tortured soul"...

Referring to guitarist Edward Van Halen as a "tortured soul," Roth says, "He's gone hermit on us. I reach out to the guys at least once a year and say, 'Come on, we don't have to love each other.' ... I'm hoping that what's wrong with Eddie is not as wrong as it is with Axl Rose or the guy in the Beach Boys ... that the malaise turns into Jupiter or something."

When it's pointed out that the guitarist underwent treatment for lung cancer several years ago, Roth replies, "But they cured that up. He's vertical, so hope springs eternal."

What's with the lung cancer thing....where'd this come from Voivod?
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Country Music Television interview for Strummin'... I suspect, the interviewer didn't know the facts and said Lung, instead of Tounge...

you at least gotta give Dave the kudos for publically admitting he wants to get back...and to have closure, I wish I could have it.

Also, ego and self-interest aside, I've always gotten the impression that these guys feel no ill will toward one another and actually love each other. I truly don't think it's a personal issue that keeps them apart. Seriously, I think Dave really wants Eddie to get out from underneath the dark cloud he seems to have been trapped under for years now.

It's recent then. Ed didn't seem to be a tortured soul back in the days. I remember those Guitar World interviews when they were spending the whole day with him.
    I donno. It's really strange.

It's not surprising though if Ed's "tortured" and shut himself away from the rest of civilised world when you consider the obvious facts he's gone through in the recent years; breakdown of his beloved band, slanderings in the press from both Dave and Sam, tongue cancer scare, divorce, alcoholism, death of his mother. Even when Ed was on top of the world and worry-free he was still always in some way insecure with his public profile.

I have therefore have stopped any whinging regarding to any new VH material. Ed needs to get back to his normal self. Music comes second.
Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
    Bobby: Who else?
    Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
    Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
    Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

Edward will be back when Edward is good and ready and not a minute sooner.

As far as the title of this thread, as long as he don't go all emo on us it's all good.
