    Default Pod XT Settings

Anyone have good settings for brown sound on a Pod XT?

    How about Sammy era settings?

I have an OLP with stock pickups.

The closest I can get is to choose the plexi variac and dime everything....

Have you downloaded the new model packs? There is a new JCM-2000 model there that is really good at getting an early VH tone. If you pm me your email I'd be glad to give you some of the settings I use for that one and the 5150 model.

What kind of setup are you running? It's taken me quite a bit of time but I finally have something I really like:

    Guitar>Pod xt>effects return of a 5150 head>4 x 12 Crate Blue Vodoo

I'm very happy with my low volume sounds now.

I get a good classic VH sounds DI'd using the plexi variac as you describe with everything up full (I think, I'd need to check the settings). I goose the front end a little with the Vetta Juice effect from the FX Pack for a little more saturation. If DI'ing, I use the Green 25s 4x12 cab with the 57 off axis and it's really close. For a VHI-VHII type sound I drive the gain a little harder and add a phaser to the front end with a heavier plate reverb. For 1984-OU812 type sounds I use a little less gain, no phaser, and a more natural room reverb. I can then add stereo chorus post amp for that big spread in the late eighties albums. I've not tried too hard, but Line 6 put out a Soldano model in the latest update that's supposed to be close to the F.U.C.K. sound.
HERE AND GONE by Haylen Beck (Stuart Neville writing as...) - "It doesn't get better than this." - Lee Child, "Highly recommended." - Harlan Coben, "Cancel all your plans and settle in for the ride." - Ruth Ware, "This is a book that lives up to the buzz." - Alafair Burke

I have an XTLive and have a pretty good VH1 sound using my Wolfgang. Not sure if that patch can be used for XT.

What I suggest is that you go download the user presets on their site. Some are bad but some of them are not too bad.

I have the newest update (3.01) but not any of the model packs. The patches on customtone.com seem to be sketchy at best. I am not running through an amp right now but using a nice set of Bose headphones and connected to my computer for recording. I guess I have the same problem as everyone else - it's easy to come close but hard to nail it. Depends on your setup and your fingers!

BTW, the Run Like Hell patch is an awesome clean tone - nails the clean Maiden tunes like the intro to Ghost of Navigator, etc. I know it's not VH related but that tone is awesome.
