Default SAMMY HAGAR Signs With RHINO RECORDS

SAMMY HAGAR Signs With RHINO RECORDS - June 8, 2006

Rhino Records has set an August 1 release date for the new SAMMY HAGAR AND THE WABOS album, entitled "Livin' It Up".

In a recent interview with Billboard.com, Hagar said about the upcoming CD, "'Livin' it Up" is really a lifestyle record. It's not a metal record at all. I would say it's more American country rock than heavy metal rock, which is the type of music I've always played from MONTROSE through VAN HALEN. My intention was to just make a real honest record."

Written over the past year at his home in Cabo San Lucas, the album features original songs such as "One Sip and You'll Surrender" and "The Way We Live", as well as a rocking honky-tonk cover of TOBY KEITH's "I Love This Bar" and his version of the STAPLE SINGERS' "I'll Take You There", according to Billboard.com.

Sammy Hagar is doing double duty while on tour this summer. He's playing a full set with his band the WABORITAS, and he's also doing a full-on VAN HALEN performance with THE OTHER HALF, which includes VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony and WABOS guitarist Vic Johnson and drummer David Lauser.

The next stop for Hagar and company is tomorrow (Friday, June 9) at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Selma, Texas.

Several hours before each show on the tour, Hagar sets up a Cabo Wabo village that has food, drinks, mariachi bands, karaoke, and other diversions.

Looking forward to getting the new album!!

Hopefully, it's a whole lot better than 'Not 4 Sale'.

Nope, IMO it's his best solo record post VH (maybe his best overall)

    Solid album.

I never got into N4S, there are some good parts but OA I just never really got into it. Sam's best work after VH was MTM, that record is amazing. Very diverse...how can you not like a song like Salvation on sandhill..that scream near the end is unreal, Who has the Right would have been a huge hit if it was released by VH, Warmth of the Womb is awsome...

Anyway, I'm off on a tangent. I do like Halfway to Memphis and a few other tunes like Karma Wheel but the record sounds rushed to me.

See that's how I am with MTM, some good tunes but I never really listen to it that often. I like LWL and Amnesty is Granted, Both Sides Now. Oddly enough, the songs you listed are my least favorite LOL. Too each their own I guess.

I like Not 4 Sale's raw, kinda rushed sound, sometimes refining and overdoing it makes the album bland. This one sounds like they got in a garage, busted out some raw tunes and put on the album. Plain and simple rock n roll. And it showcases how tight the band has become.

well, my absolute fav. song on MTM is BSN, just kinda slipped my mind earlier. I love the vid for LWl, BTW.

Anyway Sam signing with Rhino is fine by me, it' better than nothing.

I picked up a copy of NFS when at the show in Glen Helen last Saturday.

Was a bit disappointed... not as good as previous effort Ten13.

Hopefully new one is better than last...

It will be interesting to see if Rhino will want any changes in the record. I would want new cover art (change to the 'Sam I Am' single artwork) and maybe a couple of live bonus tracks.

It is an unconventional album and I could imagine that Rhino would like to see a couple of hits on the album since there are no heavy songs on the disc. Maybe a live version of M2M or MasTeq?
