Default Creative dribbling. Fkn hippie shit when we should be rockin'!

I started posting this in the Tool thread, but thought I ought not post it there 'cause I don't want to single out any one band and there's some really fkn great tunes on their new record 10,000 days. They really are a great band.

    My rant...

Bands piss me off with too much dribbling.
Say, for example, songs 1 and 2 rock. Then 3, 4, and 5 are monotonous creative dribblings from seemingly over-accentric rock stars. Cool to a point, but overdone. Then we get to song 6 and we're rockin again. Right where we should have never really left in the first place.
Don't get me wrong. I like a few minutes of creative dribbling as much as the next guy, but when the dribbling begins to outweigh the rock then it pisses me off. Especially in my car where I still cruise a cassette deck!
(Look. My car's paid off in 30 days and that spare $500 in August is going for a new car audio system)

Sorry guys, but I'm not that stoned with that much time on my hands where I can sit in a dimly lit room for 2 hours appreciating your repetitive dribbling.
No! I'm usually in traffic trying to drown out all the noise pollution with the new Tool record!

Pearl Jam does this quite a bit over past 10 or so years. To the point now that I won't even buy their new stuff (yeah yeah I'm sure I'm missin 2 or 3 real jewels on there), and Tool does it more and more too. 2 great bands that sell it a tad short IMO for the sake of "creative freedom" or whatever.
'Cause now they've reached a level of commercial success and comfort that allows it.
Whatever it is, it bugs me.

IMO some bands that I'm very fond of should really keep it cranked more!

    danke

I think it's one drawback of the CD age - "we've got 75-80 minutes (where in the vinyl era we only had 45), and dammit, we're gonna use it". And so songs that would've been cut from the vinyl are left in and bands are allowed to exercise their creative options. Most albums today would have been double albums back in the vinyl age, and there are very few double albums from back then that were solid stem-to-stern.

Also idiotic is when a band regularly makes 60-70 minutes albums and then when it's time for a "Greatest Hits" record and they could easily fill 80 minutes, they barely dent the 60 minute mark.

    So true.

Luckily that same technology which has given us every bands double album every album (yawn) has brought with it the "next" button.
