    Default help with my laptop!

i was trying to get the updates online last night for windows service pack 2. i was getting tired of waiting for the download (i even have cable) so i decided to stop it cuz i wanted to go to bed. went to shut it down and it said service pack 2 was interrupted and may cause changes in your system. so now when i go to turn the comp on....it goes through its startup goes to this weird blue screen for like a split second then reboots itself again. i can't start the thing normally now can't even start the thing in fuckin safe mode. can't even restart with the last good configuration. the reset button doesn't help either.

    any ideas?

    I have a site I can recommend www.virtualdr.com

    great place to get help.

I thought it downloaded, and then you ran the download as an update.
(as a matter a fact I burned it to CD, so I would never have to download it again)
So interupting the download should not do squat. However, interupting it once it is actually updating (which is from your drive at that point and nothing is going to speed it up) can leave things very screwed up.

If you have a real copy of XP, you can do an over the top install and not lose any data, but you have to re-apply ALL XP updates and drivers and may even have to reload some of your software. If you have a recovery CD, then I am not 100% sure if you can do an over the top install.

post on that site before you do anything.

Do you have a firewall, anti-virus or Spyware to protect your computer. This looks like a virus invaded your computer. This appended to me a few months ago with the blue screen.

If this is the case, this virus has formatted you hard drive and destroyed all of your programs and files. You will have to reformat you computer drive and re-install all of your software programs. I hope you made a back up of your files.

Rebooting in the midst of installing Service Pack 2 is not a good thing, but doesn't have to be terminal. As mentioned, if you have a legitimate copy of Windows XP (the same version that corresponds to your key, i.e., if your key is for Windows XP Home Edition, a Windows XP Professional edition CD won't help you), you can either reinstall, or you should even get the option to repair. But as already mentioned, should you be successful, then you would need to reinstall any subsequent Windows Updates that have come out since your version of Windows XP was released.

If you don't have a legitimate copy of the CD, you're fucked!

And when you get it fixed, leave the doggone Yankees screensaver and scanned photos of Alex and A-Rod off - they do nothing but drag you down!

Insert your original CD and reboot the computer. Use the repair function and there should a way to restore to a point prior to installing SR-2. All else failing, re-install the entire crappy OS.

I've never had any luck with the repair function of XP, but I have read many who have. Good luck!
