    Default Your Van Halen Replacement

Van Halen's spot in my heart and soul never will be occupied by any other musical group, but being a realist, I truly think our favorite band is no more. Therefore, I'm wondering if anyone else has found a "replacement" for their ears - an active group that gets the blood pumping in any way close to how Eddie and the boys did.

I can recommend a group called Ra. I heard their cover version of The Police's Every Little Thing She Does is Magic on a local radio station and can say it's the first time in many moons that another group's music gave me that VH sense of joy. It's a good cover, but more important, you can hear a passion in it.

Since hearing it, I bought Ra's two CDs. They have some good originals. It's heavy, but with a melodic sound (similar that way to VH). It's good. Here's a link: http://www.rafans.net

Several full songs are on the site. I suggest listening to Every Little Thing first, then Rectifier. Then, if interested, just skip around. You might like.

To the point of this thread, can anyone else recommend a Van Halen fill-in? As in, another band that's pretty good we might not know about? Let's share the joy!

    Todd

If I had to pick, I'd probably go with Alice Cooper.

Different but I listen to a lot of Down (Phil Anselmo, Pepper Keenan, Kirk Windstein, Rex and Jimmy Bower). They started as side project for fun as every member had other bands but they finally released an album in '95 then nothing 'till '02 when they released a second one. They're the perfect Sabbath meets Skynyrd band. Been a fan since '95 and still am.

Van Halen will forever be my ultimate favorite of course, but for now I'd say Queensryche has me the most excited. They just released Operation Mindcrime 2, and in their upcoming tour they'll be performing Mindcrime 1 and 2 in entirety. Geoff Tate is a great frontman and I can't wait to see the tour.

I think I Mother Earth is pretty decent....especially their first album 'Dig'. They kind of slide after that and Edwin gets replaced for albums 3 & 4.

    Also, Godsmack is simply phenomenal.

Thats tough. I'll listen to other bands, but usually their older stuff. I really do not like most new music. I always find myself going back to VH. If I do find a song or two that I like...I end up feeling bad about the VH situation and wish we'd hear something new. I really don't have an answer here. VH is the beginning and end for me. I spend most of my time listening to SportsTalk radio.

I'm in the same boat. My musical tastes range from rock to reggae, and everything in between (EXCEPT rap - can't stand it). I'm a music lover, dig all kinds, but after listening to something else for awhile, I always end up at a VH CD, thinking "Is it gonna be some 'Fair Warning' today? Maybe a lil' 'Carnal Knowledge?'

There is no replacement for Van Halen, PERIOD

By the way, that Ra band is alright. (is it RA like R-A? Or is it Ra like Ra-Ra or is it pronounced Ray?) Listened to a few of those tunes - dig that Police cover!

Disturbed is the only band that has peaked my interest.

flea is masterful i consider him a current day evh on bass.

chris cornell gives me that sense of joy when i hear him sing. in the vocalist world he and geoff tate rise to the top like no other.

Tom Morello is a current day wonder. he has his own style. no way is he as influential as evh but he is quite the innovator.

funny all these guys are old school. I guess i am not aware of any new blood that can raise the bar.
