Default Bands Van Halen can't touch....legacy wise

Here are the list of bands that VH can't touch legacy wise.

    Beatles
    Stones
    Zep
    The Who

I know we all love our VH but let's be realistic. All the bands listed above will always be held in a higher regard than VH. VH can never be considered in the same class as these 4 bands.

I agree with you for the most part...but didn't The Who take a LONG time off before a big reunion...honestly...I am not that old and don't really remember how long it was. And I think VH is better...if they didn't have all the crap they would be right behind the other 3. (my 2 cents).

Those are the only clear cut ones. Everybody else is debatable.

you have to put U2 in there. they've learned from the mistakes of others and have done waaaaaaaaay more good in the world than all those bands put together. their legacy goes far beyond music.

let me say, however, that i am a huge fan of the other bands mentioned, too. there's nothing like those innovators...

    Yet ultimately, pointless.

    Define legacy .

I honestly do not feel that Van Halen serves as a generation defining band. No matter how this riff rock band with a pretty good guitarist (spare me the "era-defining" super hero stuff, ok he changed soloing, two-handed tapping, blah fucking blah-blah), the songs do not hold up.

This is what one would call "party music", for lack of a better term. We are not surveying Dylan here, as there is no deep meaning.

As a result, the concept of appointing a legacy to Van Halen music (as applied to the bands pointed out) is an unfair adjudication.

I think they fit better along a line of the Beach Boys, or maybe original Black Babbath, and I'm dead fucking serious. There is mind fucking awesome artistry to be found in that music, pure poetry, both musically and lyrically.

OK, Brian Wilson and Tommy Iommi(sp) are worlds apart. Yet both came up with accidental riffs, ocassional flirtations with greatness in the pantheon of songwriting or arranging.

Neither one of these dim-wits were aware of their moments in time, yet they defined them.

And weirdly neither will ever be held in the obvious pantheon of the Who/Zep/Stones/Beatles.

Besides, the Jeff Beck Group were better than Led Zeppelin, to begin with. (At least in the beginning).

    Beta was superior to VHS.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that indeed it's all
    fucking pointless.

    I miss the Moody Blues.

Well, I'll say it. I'm a huge mark for Van Halen, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, all of them. There's one band I don't think they can touch.

It's too bad cos if Van Halen would've stayed together, or at least changed their name once Roth quit, that "legacy" factor would've stayed fully intact. By drastically switching both the music and overall image, they beyond tarnished themselves.

Still, the six pack will always be heralded as among the elite within the rock and roll community. Heck, most musicians and performers still praise and give the Roth-Era accolades to this day and always will.

The rest 'tis an embarrassing footnote, derailment and sidenote of a once stellar, influential and epic band that no one could touch.

History will prove that ACDC is the better band, and I'm not even that big of a fan.

I think Pink Floyd and Bruce Springsteen too. But what the hell do I know?
