Default My Wife and I are Having a Baby!!!

I recently got married to my longtime girlfriend and we found out Friday that we are having a baby! This a very exciting time, because neither one of us has ever had a child.

Anyway, just wanted to share the news.

Awesome news, congrats! It's nice to know that not only dumb people are breeding, I'm sure you're gonna raise a fine kid
    "Suck a fat one, faggot."
-MikeL, showing off that sharp wit of his.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

Thanks. It is a little nerve racking. When we found out officially, I was overjoyed...and still am. Now, though, I fine myself thinking about how I am going to raise he/she to be the best they can be without pushing them too much.

You talk about how you will want to raise your kids if you ever have any, but when it finally happens, you feel as though that may be easier said than done...and he/she hasn't even been born yet!!!

Congrats! It'll all come natural. I was 19 when I had my twin girls. I heard all kinds of horror stories, especially from my MIL, nobody gave me good advice. My babies are now 22 today, and probably the best kids you'll ever meet. (Not perfect, but close.) I raised them on my own since they were 4. Just do the best you can.

Congratulations, Brad! Enjoy your nights out now, go to the movies a lot, and GET SOME SLEEP! Life changes dramatically when a baby shows up, but it's a GOOD change. Sleep when the baby sleeps, and don't be afraid of a dirty diaper. It's all washable.

Be very patient when your wife wants you to feel the baby kicking. She can feel it LONG before you can. She'll think it's a little trail of gas bubbles, but nope. That was the baby moving. By far, the kicking is the best part about being pregnant, at least to me!

My best advice: Train that kid to go to sleep at night immediately! Don't wait until s/he falls asleep to put her in the crib. When it's bedtime, put her in bed! With my first, her bedtime was 10PM from the day we took her home, and we just kept working it back. When my pediatrician said, "OK, you should start putting her to bed before she falls asleep," he was shocked when I said we'd been doing that for months. He thought it was great! Doing this will save you A LOT of heartache. Watch a couple episodes of SuperNanny and you'll believe it.

Most of all, enjoy this time!!!

    Congratulations!

You seem like you have your head screwed on straight, I don't think you'll have any problem being a good dad.

Still, when in doubt, ask yourself "What would Kevin Federline do?" and do the exact opposite.

Maybe you should ask about some good books about baby care though, when I worked at the toy store I noticed that 8 out of 10 parents pushing a baby carriage usually had a baby-book of some kind in the diaper bag. You seem like a book kind of guy so you might feel a little more confortable with some kind of field manual.

    Good luck....

SLEEP, get sleep now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, get use to not sleeping much. It took me a long time to get use to that. Zombie days are a comin, but worth every second of it!

Oh yeah and take care of EVERY whim momma to be has. Go to Lamaze, it helped to have an idea how to handle contractions and such. NO pillows in the crib. Not til he/she is at least 18 months or so. Sleep now!!!

We used the nuk brand nipples and bottles, unless you go au naturalle. Don't pick up a baby EVERY time it cries or you will have a crybaby...Seriously, there is nothing greater than holding your child, but try not to hold it all of the time or it will expect it all of the time and cry because you aren't holding him/her. That is experience right there ;-)

Boys and girls ARE MUCH different. That isn't some sort of revelation, well, I guess it was to me...Little girls will be more mature than little boys. Hate to admit that, but 'tis true.

Bottom line is CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Your life is about to change for the better! Kids are great!!!!

What to Expect When Your Wife is Expanding is a fantastic, hilarious book! It's mostly funny, but there are some pratical tips in there, too. I highly recommend it!

Any dads out there read that one?

    OK, I'll stop now.

Yes, what to expect when you are expecting is a great book for a first timer. Lots of good tips. This dad read that one. Enjoy every single second of when she is pregnant (it will be hard some days trust me), but that is the nature of the beast. I wouldn't trade to be a woman EVER so understand they are quite...uncomfortable sometimes and that makes them )))grouchy((( understandably so.

I'll pick up the book you guys have suggested.

I think my main concern is time. I start on my Ph.D in August and my wife is almost done with hers. I think we might have to become very good at time management. I think it will work out okay, though. My wife should graduate in December so that will coincide pretty well…which will leave me being the only one still schooling it.

Anyway, thanks for the advice and well wishes.
