    Default VH1's "History of Metal"

Courtesy of takamiri from The Army.

Stellar clip and really shows how truly influential our boys were to the history of music. This is all excluding the Van Hagar era of course. If you'll notice, there's not ONE mention of Hagar pertaining to the band, just as it should be

Van Halen Segment from VH1's "History of Metal"

Anyhoo, great little clip and history lesson.

    Enjoy.

    Yeah, it was great.

Notice that the only time we can hear Van Halen music is when they talk about the first segment of "Eruption".

Like I've always said, I love VH with Sammy, but when it comes to Rock'n'Roll history..., Van Halen with Dave is the big thing. I'd still LOVE to have the original lineup back.

I'm pretty disappointed in this VH1 series. They covered Maiden for almost a full half an hour and then gave VH about 6 minutes. Now I understand that VH fits the mold of "hard rock" much more so than "heavy metal" but Holy Crap!!! They gave Maiden's stupid "Eddie" mascot 6 minutes!!! "Oooh look they dressed him up like a mummy. Oooh now he's from outer space. Oh yeah, and then there was this band from California." It's a slap in the face.

As for them not mentioning Sammy "as it should be". C'mon, gimme a break!! The whole series ran chronologically. They were discussing the groundbreakers of the early '80's which is essentially Classic VH. There was no reason to mention Sam since the show was talking about the metal scene in 80-81.

I don't think it was a slight to Sammy or anything like that. I mean they're talking about Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister. VH WITH Sammy is at least as musically relevant to the genre as some of the C-list bands they were mentioning on that show. I mean, Saxon for crap's sake? Sure, it would have been nice to see them give Sammy some face time, but that's not what the show was about. It was about the development of the music and how it evolved. They didn't mention the death of Bon Scott or AC/DC hiring Brian Johnson (unless I missed that part). But then they talk about Ronnie James Dio replacing Ozzy. Some strange choices and omissions but there's just way too much to cover in 4 hours and get it all in. (But again, 6 minutes is BS.)
