VH ON "HEAVY the story of METAL"

I was tuning in tonight to episode #2 of the VH1 show "Heavy, the story of Metal" and saw a really nice long segment on Van Halen in the 70's. They said that Van Halen "americanized Heavy Metal...and gave it a big smile". I loved it!!. My son, was watching it with me and I think he finally gets what dad has been ranting and raving about for the better part of 25+ years. This show kicks ass!! I highly advise those who haven't seen the show to watch it. It brings me back to why I like what I like.

not only was it a long segment, it emphasized the band's role in bringing metal back to the mainstream and stressed the band's importance in the late 70's and early 80's metal scene. in short, it crowned vh as the king of metal for that era. great segment, great show.

Too bad VH isn't heavy metal.

VH1. Rolling Stone. What would we do without 'em.

you know what?...they can call it metal...big rock
    stadium rock....dinosaur rock...cock rock....classic rock
    blues based rock...hard rock...guitar rock...hair metal
heavy metal...high energy music...meat and potatoes
testosterone rock or even 80's rock..... as long as they mention VAN HALEN and their place in music history and Eddie's gift of guitar to the world!!
Question? why are DLR & Sam doing country music??
Future tour with Merle Haggard? WTF??!!

    You got me there.

But Van Halen is hard rock. If Ed don't call his stuff heavy metal, I ain't gonna either.

Ah, the continuing fine line between hard rock and metal. It gets thinner with each passing decade.

    Man I'm gettin' old.

I couldn't believe that Eddie wasn't on the cover of the Rolling Stone that came out 2 weeks ago that had hundreds of people on there for their 1,000th issue or whatever it was.

    And don't forget pop metal.

VH aint metal, but they sure as hell influenced the genre.

Which is more or less what VH1 was trying to say. They influenced what was coming but stopped short of calling them metal. VH1 did a good job including them in the proper place especially the comment regarding Edward and how everyone took a little something from him when he came on the scene.

Hey Squal - Please don't put Rolling Stone and VH1 in the same category. RS couldn't find their ass with both hands. At least VH1 brings them to the table for one reason or another every chance they get to include them.

Episode #3 is on today is supposed have a focus on VH and 1984.

I was disappointed that in that whole VH segment in episode 2 the only VH music was a brief snippet of Eruption. They practically played every song Judas Priest and Iron Maiden ever recorded in their segments but very little VH? Why? Maybe they are saving it all for tonight.

BTW, I didn't know Bruce Dickenson was actually Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter. Nice outfit, Bruce.

Good. I was disappointed they ended last night with Def Leppard over VH as far as what videos did for certain bands.

Van Halen has multiple styles INCLUDING "Heavy Metal"..., they just don't stick to that genre..., they are more versatile then other Metal bands.

Metal is not necessarily "devil" attitude. Van Halen is Metal..., "Get Up" is Metal... "Judgment Day" is metal. A Van Halen concert will blast your ears like only Metal can..., and they were the best at it.

They are just most versatile then other Metal bands..., that's why some like to call them "Big Rock"... What's "Big Rock"? Van Halen is Van Halen..., it's many "Rock Music" styles.
