Default An idea to keep people off cell phones in cars

I had this idea a while back and wondered it it would be possible, even though it might not be easy.

My idea is to have the cars windows either come with have added a layer of tint like material that is fully polarized. Like the new 3d glasses that are polarized north - south and east - west. It is my understanding from dealing with wireless internet that a signal passing through a house window that is polarized in one of the two directions will decrease the signal by at leas 1/2. And a fully polarized window will completely block the signal. This according to an answer I gave on an exam and got perfect credit from my professor whose specialty was wireless networks.

If it is indeed true then that might help keep people especially kids from yakkin on the phone while driving. The only drawbacks of course are in emergency situations and the fact the rest of the car prolly would let the signal through. Just wanted to get some opinions on what you guys think of this or am I just crazy.

Dark tinted windows are as much of a driving hazard as talking on the cell phone. Or at least that's how the cops usually see it.

They need to start equipping cell-phones (either built in, or as a mandatory accessory) with an FM transmitter that plays the phone through the stereo. If they can do that for an IPOD or a portable satellite radio, then a phone should be no problem. Shit, I had my phone set up that way in fucking 2001. It ain't that difficult.

I don't see how dark tinted windows are a hazard. My sister has dark tinted windows in her Charger, and you can see out them just fine and I can't remember the last time I had to swerve to get out of the way of someone driving at me with tinted windows.

I have however, had to take evasive action to get out of the way of someone yakking on their fucking cell phone.

They're a pain when you are behind a larger vehicle and the (back) windows are darkly tinted, so not only can you not see around them, but you also can't see through them...

People won't put down their cell phones to save their lives. Not too long ago I saw a girl of about 18, talking on her cell phone of course, stop more than halfway through an intersection at a red light, impeding traffic going the other way. Nobody could get through on their green light, and there were maybe five or six drivers practically holding down their horn at her. She didn't notice, and was laughing and talking on her cell phone. She sat there until she had a green again about a minute later, and went through the rest of the way.

Some people use their cell phones as security blankets, too. I was sitting down in my front yard yesterday, getting something out of my lawn mower that had gotten stuck on the blade. A guy walking down the street took out his cell phone, put it up to his ear, and never dialed or said anything, but just held it there until he was blocks past me. Was he antisocial and thought that someone he didn't know would say something to him, or maybe he felt so terribly insecure walking along alone?

Cell phones need to be about as big a Cobra S.O.S. portable CB radio (http://cpd.sanroque.es/museocb/image...TD%20copia.jpg), and maybe that will make people get off the damn things all the time.

OK. Ban cell phone use in cars. Then what? Ban passengers and other
distractions? People do stupid things in traffic on and off the phone -
instead of legislating devices, maybe the answer is stiffer laws/penalties
regarding negligent driving behavior in general.
