Default Van Halen Boxset update from melodicrock.com

    http://www.melodicrock.com/

No surprises at all, but worth the read. Hopefully someday they get the "cooperation" they need to complete it.

"VAN HALEN BOX SET NOT ON LABEL SCHEDULE:

The big question Van Halen fans are asking is whether 2006 will see any action from the band. That remains very doubtful, but there was a little hope held by some that a long touted Box Set might finally find it's way into store shelves. No so says a rep for the band's record label. I spoke this week with someone at Rhino Records - the subsidiary of Warner Bros. that handles all catalogue re-issues and even some new release titles such as the current Chicago album.
This is the very same rep I previously spoke to in 2004 when the Best of Both Worlds compilation was released.
He stated that planning for a Box Set had indeed been on and off schedule for the label, but at this point in time remains very definitely off schedule. Disappointingly, there are no current or foreseeable plans for any box set or Hagar-era remasters coming our way.
The main issue for the box set is apparently the reluctance of the principle band members to work on one. Rhino have no unreleased material on hand and would only consider a release if access to such material was available and full co-operation from the band could be agreed upon. So for now, a box set remains a no go."

Well, at least if Rhino is ever gonna put this thing out, it won't be just another repackaged greatest hits thing...

Worked for me anyway. I still have colleagues asking me what it is like to fuck a green womanoid with seventeen breasts.

Oh, what the fuck? It's sad when I'm getting upset about the lack of a box set, which will contain material I already own!
I highly doubt we'll get many 'gifts' in the box set (unreleased material, demos, a DVD of a show we haven't seen). This is, afterall, Van Halen we're talking about.

We should gather up our respective demos, stuff like Angel Eyes, I Want Some Action, their studio cover of Won't Get Fooled Again, That's Why I love You and other stuff and send it to Rhino. Man this is frustrating.

I haven't seen anyone blame this on Ed and Al yet- that's surprising.

Short of blowing your head off ala Kurt Cobain, they must be the dumbest set of musicians on the whole fucking planet. I know it is just a band and I shouldn't really care that much, but for the love of Christ if they are not going to put any new material out is it really too much to ask for the unreleased material including the Cherone and Dave albums and a DVD of a Dave era show? It is already done, all they have to do is package it!

Its a shame there are also no plans to remaster the Hagar era albums either. When you take a look at what some other bands have released in the form of Box Sets, Remasters + Bonus Cds + DVDs and even Dualdiscs (like AC/DC's 'Back in Black') it puts the Van Halen catalog output in the shade. One of the the best box sets I ever bought was The Cult's 'Singles Box Set'. It had six Cds worth of EPs, 12", B-Sides, remixes, alternate versions etc. and a huge colour booklet giving the history of the band plus a song by song breakdown by the band.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a remastered Dualdisc of OU812 with bonus tracks and a live show/ band documentry on the other side...ahhhhh I must get a grip.

most bands don't have the "dual" history that VH does...hence, they're able to work up box sets, etc...much easier.

    Okay, I will.

Seeing as Sam, Mike, and even Dave would probably have no problem with it, who then would you blame?

No plans for the band in '06. What a surprise.

We don't know that for a fact. Unfortunately due to the legalities of it, all 5 (6 if you count Gary) would have to be in agreement for this to work.
