    Default VH mention

Saw the Ratt behind the music last night. They mentioned that Ratt saw a VH show when they were just starting out and were blown away They decided to move from San diego to the sunset strip area because of this.
Show a couple of seconds of footage of VH from the fair warning tour. Footage looked different than the 3 videos released on MTV but I can be wrong.

    Depressing behind the music...

I dont care what anyone says Warren D is a mini Eddie Van Halen with a bluesy touch.

There was an EVH mention in the Pantera Behind The Music as well. Showed pics of Ed at Dime's funeral, and how he put the VH II guitar in the KISS Casket with Dime.

Another VH mention was in a recent interview with Vinnie from Pantera regarding the final words he said to Dime that night :

Dime was warming up his hand and putting his lip gloss on. And the last thing I ever said to him was 'VAN HALEN?' And he gives me five and says, 'VAN-fuckin'-HALEN.' That was our code word for letting it all hang out and having a good time. A minute 45 seconds later, he was dead and gone. It's insane. [Pause] Insane."

I still can't believe that happened.

I saw a lot of similarities between Ratt and Roth era VH on that BTM (besides the influence).

World class charismatic frontman with limited vocal range

    Introverted phenom guitarist

1st album sells huge but sales decline album after album (VH avoided this by branching out with 1984. something Ratt could never do)

Lead Singer starts showing disinterest in music and ultimately bails.

The only similarities between DLR era VH and Ratt was that they both played hard rock music and Warren was heavily influenced by Ed , THATS IT! You cannot compare Roth to Pearcy , you think Roth is limited vocally live you should hear Pearcy live and to call him a world class charismatic frontman While Ratt IMO was great on vinyl and Warren will always be a favorite they could not cut it live. I don`t need to tell you what VH with Roth could do live , they destroyed venues they played at. Anyone that saw VH in `78-`84 and Ratt in `84-`89 will tell you the same thing. That was a pretty cool Ratt Behind the music though , Robin Crosby what a shame.

"bluesy touch" is the perfect way to put it... I always loved Warren D in the hey day. From a physical standpoint (which is still part of rock and roll, like it or not).. slender, thin, long straight black hair, WD had the Joe Perry, EVH kind of thing going on. AND he could wail a solo like no other "hair band" lead (with all apologies to George Lynch). Ratt had some great riffs screwed up by bad lyrics (Lay it down comes to mind).

Oh, and a rattlesnake skin covered guitar seemed VERY cool at the time..
Don't drink the Jim Jones punch. They're called theToxic Twins for a reason...

I liked his brothers Quote. "When we were kids listing to the Van Halen 2 album, if I would have told Dime that when he died, Eddie Van Halen was going to put that white and black striped guitar in the casket with him. Dime would have said KILL ME NOW!"

I love both Dave & Sammy. A huge fan of both, albeit it I favor Sammy. Van Halen was my favorite band with BOTH lead singers. However, to compare Dave to Pearcy is insane. Dave is arguably the best rock & roll front-man ever. He was the definition of charismatic. Pearcy stands still. Occasionally walks from one side of the stage to the other. But Pearcy could never be mistaken as "charismatic." I've seen Ratt numerous times in concert. Pearcy is not very active at all.

And as far as vocal range, Dave's taken some heat ever since the "Sam & Dave tour" because Dave's voice wasn't what it used to be and Sammy's held up better over time. However, Dave could hit much higher notes than Pearcy ever dreamed of. About the only thing they do have in come is that they both wore spandex pants.

    Eddie mentioned Warren D.

I remember back in 1984 reading an interview with Eddie and he was asked who his favorite current guitarist was and the first person he mentioned was Warren DiMartini. I, of course, went out and bought everything Ratt had done up to that time. He was great, but only liked a few Ratt songs. After "Out of the Cellar", they never really did anything that stood out much.

Anyhow, what better compliment could you get at that time then a vote of confidence from Eddie Van Halen? I would've framed that article and made a necklace out of it if I were Warren!!

    Speaking of VH mentions.........

Any Jim Rome fans here? Lately they've been playing Romeo Delight during outro's to commercial breaks.
    .
    .
    .
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Another VH mention I caught last night on Family Guy...it was set in prehistoric times. Caveman Peter said he was going to look for a hollow log so he could play the intro to "Hot for Teacher!"
