Default VH3 - Who played what?

Nope this is not a normal VH3 thread.

I always believed that Mike did not play the majority of bass on the album which was basically confirmed over the last several months. However somebody in another thread mentioned that Ed played drums on From Afar.

Wondering if anybody knew who played what on each song.

there is a thread around here somewhere that breaks it all down. the thread was done by a drummer who spent some time figuring it out. It seemed quite accurate.

    quite interesting.

Offically, we have no idea. In the Burn interview from a few months ago, Mike confirmed that they only played 3 songs as a "four piece" on VH3 but he doesn't go into details song by song. Mike does sing alot of bg vocals, but he is singing to a completed track(s) that most likely had Ed's bass.

The common theory is that Ed recorded most of the music (including bass & drums) himself and mixed it together (this is pretty evident on songs like Once, From Afar & Dirty Water Dog). From there, Gary recorded his vocals and Mike & Ed (and most likely Luthaker) recorded bg vocals.

Perhaps since Ed had already recorded the bass tracks, they decided it was just easier to use Ed's rather than have Mike re-record the same bass lines. Obviously, Mike CAN play the tunes since they played them live and it sounds fine.

Of course officially Mike is credited with playing bass and co-writing all the songs. Same with Alex and drums although it appears that neither one of them had much input into the album. Well, Al picked the cover!
