Woman, 62, fights $1,431 cable porn bill

YONKERS, N.Y. - A 62-year-old retired schoolteacher is fighting with a cable company over a hefty bill for porn and gangsta rap programming she says she never ordered.

The charges of more than $1,000 appeared on Claudia Lee's February Cablevision bill, shortly after she bundled her cable TV, computer and phone services.

"They are harassing me and trying to make me pay for something I didn't do," said Lee, who lives alone.

She said she has been forced to pay $779 to the company and was told to pay $652 more or face having her services cut off.

"Every time I call, somebody tells me something different. They're not on the same page," she said Thursday.

Cablevision spokesman Bill Powers said Lee may not have ordered the pay-per-view programming, but someone in her home did. Lee claimed someone pirated her connection. Powers said the company did not find theft of service.

On Friday, however, Cablevision issued a statement saying, "We are suspending these charges pending a full investigation and we are going to work with our customer to ensure that this matter is appropriately resolved."

Lee said the only regular visitor to her house is her 81-year-old mother, "and I don't think she wants to watch porn."

Cable companys really do suck. I have heard so many nightmare story's it not even funny. The thing that makes me mad is they dont care that they suck, they got you and they know it. My best friend phoned his cable company to have them move a cable they had installed right over his deck, they ran the thing directly through the center of it at about 8ft high. Call one the guy never showed up. Call 2 they guy showed up but couldnt find the cable. Call 3 my buddy stayed home to show him the cable then left for work. When he arrived home nothing had been done. Call 4 the cable compnay was looking into it, this was 6 months ago.

I actually went without cable for four years, I just watched what came over the antenna (NBC, FOX). My brother moved back in and he decided to go with Direct TV. Their service is much better (not perfect) plus they have better channel selection.

Cable would be better if there was competition instead of exclusive rights like they have now.

Totally agree about Direct TV. I have had it for years and it rules. I have not had one issue with it sence I had it installed. Direct TV DVR is the shit, I cant imagine TV without it. Everytime I have had to have a Direct TV service person come out they have been here within a day and arrive right on time.

Direct TV is also less expensive than cable. My Parents pay $90 a month for there cable and lame version of DVR. I think I pay $55 and I have more channels. There DVR records 20 hrs and cost them $12 a month. Mine records 70 hrs and costs me $4 a month.

    Cable is a ripoff!!

That lady wanted to get her freak on!

DirecTV is soooo much better the cable. I can't wait until DSL is available in my house so I can dump the damn cable internet.

The DVR is a lot better and much cheaper for DirecTV. I pay $5 a month for DVR service. The menus and functionality is a lot better then my girlfriend's cable DVR.

DirecTV is the shiz-nit. I switched from cable about 5 years ago since they never carried FX or Comedy Central. On top of that, they kept jacking my prices up all the damn time. I signed up for satellite and I've had no complaints. They have given me credits regularly-after the hurricane they gave me a kick ass credit. The NFL and NBA packages rules. The only complaint I have is DirecTV doesn't carry my local channels-one of many disadvantages of living in BFE-so my wife decided to keep the cable w/only the local channels in one room. The reception sucks, but such is life. Surprisingly, they have kept the prices steady since I've had it.

DirecTV is slowly building up their local channel markets. They are also starting to carry local channels in HD.

We've got Verizon, Comcast and RCN providing phone, cable, and high speed internet in our town. Hasn't done shit to prices

For all the shit I've heard about Comcast, their customer service for me has been the absolute best - they've gone way beyond my expectations (over the phone) a couple of times for me, one time staying on the phone for over 30 minutes walking me through a computer fix that had nothing to do with their service. That is the only reason I haven't jumped to Verizon to save some bucks with their introductory offer, I don't want to give up the customer service...

HD or not in HD I really don't care just so I can get my local channels and dump this crappy cable system. Since I live in BFE, I'm sure I'll be the last one to get added on to this.
