Is Van Halen in the same class as Deep Purple?

I see VH got passed up for the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame again and Metallica is in. It's not that I don't think Metallica deserves it but makes me think that VH will never get in. Look at Deep Purple, checkered history and no Hall Of Fame. Could this be the same outcome for our VH?

Its possible. VH and Deep Purple are 2 bands that have had major influence over many bands througout the years, but for some reason, they are always pigeon-holed by their reputation, more than their music. Deep Purple has gone through some changes over the years and so has VH and people tend to look at that more than the music. I think the reason Metallica is going in, is because they are more widely accepted in todays youth, hence their growing popularity and induction. Im sure that if VH was popular by todays standards, they would go into the Hall of Fame much quicker but we may never know.

    .....just my 2 cents

BOISE STATE BRONCOS! - They're awesome. Deal with it!

11/16/04 - VAN HALEN in Boise, Idaho. Changed my life forever

8/8/06 - Sammy Hagar and the Wabos w/Michael Anthony in Boise, Idaho. Sam and Mike still kick ass

That's correct. They aren't eligible until 2008. But they probably will make it in on the first try, even though the "establishment" didn't give a shit about them until 1991.

And back to the topic, no Van Halen isn't even nearly as big of a joke as Deep Purple. If "Purple" had called it quits for good about the time that Tommy Bolin died, then the joke factor would have been about equal. And nobody would have held the legitimate reunion in the 80's against them. But everything after that - pointless.

How many total members have been in DP?

I read a while back there has been something like 27 people in Black Sabbath thru the years.

How come RUSH isn't in the RRHOF yet? They were inducted into Canada's over a decade ago.

Well..... Blackmore AND Gillan, actually. You can't throw a fool like Joe Lynn Foreigner Wannabe or Covercheeze any more than you can Steve Morse.

Actually you gotta wonder about Steve Morse's self esteeem. Admittedly I'm not really familiar with his work, though people tell me the Dixie Dregs were a decent band. But the guy seems content with Blackmore's sloppy seconds or Kerry Livgren's (Kansas)

I just saw Deep Purple this last Tuesday and I gotta say that was one terrible show.

Morse did an extended solo spot that pretty much ripped most of Eds solo work. Gillian has lost that power in voice and could hardly hit many notes. Glover was glover just holding down the same note pretty much the whole show. Paice well hes slowed thats for sure but still a kick ass drummer.

I mainly went to hear Morse play, I was extremely dissapointed with his play and his total rip off of Ed's work in his extended solo spot.

2nd worst gig I have ever seen.

Deep Purple had a co-headline concert in Finland with Uriah Heep a couple of years ago. Uriah Heep blew Deep Purple away.. Deep Purple was the closing act and I was so bored that I almost left before they had ended their set..
