    Default UAW

UAW just asked its members for a strike vote. Hurry up and run to your graves morons. Go on and jump right into that ocean you lemmings.

DETROIT, United States (AFP) - The United Auto Workers has asked 24,000 Delphi-represented workers across the US to vote to give its leadership the authorization to conduct a national strike against bankrupt auto parts supplier Delphi Corp.

"This is not a vote to go on strike, but rather a move to give the national union the authorization to call a strike if they determine it is necessary," UAW communications director Paul Krell told AFP.

The move comes just days before a May 9 hearing before a US bankruptcy judge to consider Delphi's request to void its union contracts and unilaterally impose salary and benefit cuts.

The strike votes must be conducted before the end of business May 14.

A national strike at Delphi would cripple General Motors Corp., its largest customer and former parent. GM relies on Delphi for several critical components for a majority of its North American-made vehicles and a lack of parts would force GM to close its assembly operations.

Krell would not comment on whether the union and Delphi have reached an impasse in their on-going negotiations to reach a settlement before the court takes action.

He said the union "has been focused on the court process" since Delphi filed its motion to void the contracts on March 31.

A union insider says strike authorization votes are traditionally conducted as part of the bargaining process and the union has on several occasions asked for the votes in the past as part of national bargaining with the Big Three automakers even though strikes were not conducted.

The process is often used as a tool to influence both sides to reach an agreement in a timely manner.
