Default I Saw A True Living Legend Tonight - BB King

Tonight, I had the extreme pleasure of seeing the one and only King of Blues himself, B.B. King, in Concert, something I'm PROUD to add to mya already lengthy concert resume. Well, I'll say this. I can't write a real knock-down-drag-out review like I can of Van Halen or Queen, because honestly, this one wasn't a "write down the setlist" kinda show, this was a "holy shit...that guy is a legend....absorb this" kind of show. And he said it himself tonight, he had to be helped to the stage. He's got bad knees, a bad back, a bad hip, and he sits down on a folding chair to play his songs......and at 80 years of age....he's still got every note...every raspy scream....every moment of "the thrill is gone"......and I got to hear the one song I prayed he'd sing (Keys to the Highway). And I absorbed every minute of it....and I almost came to tears at the end, when a very SINCERE B.B. King sat there on that stage and said "I'm gonna do this until I die...but this may be my last tour, and if this is my last stop, on my last tour, and I never do it again, I thank all of you for a wonderful evening"....and that man deserved every damn minute of the longest standing ovation I've been a part of recently (and I've been to a Queen show AND a Van Halen show in recent history). He's 80 years.....he's still got a hand that can pick a guitar like none other (even Eddie....different style, yes, but the principle is all the same) and you know what....you can make comparisons....you can say what you want about the old man....but I don't forsee Edward Van Halen doing anything remotely close at the 60 year mark he's a decade from hitting........let alone 80.

    Yeah...it was like that.

My buddy saw him a few years ago and said almost the same thing. Take it in man, cause they don't make them like that anymore.

That sounds cool. mrs007 was in his club in Memphis a few weeks ago - pretty sure she said he was there.

Just the thought of seeing this guy live makes me well up.

    BB King!

    What a great review.
I saw Mr. King about five years ago (w/ KWS, Tower of Power, and Indigenous), it was a phenomenal show, and I feel privileged to have spent an evening with this legendary performer. I never knew how incredible he was on the six string known as Lucille. He was smooth as a silk sheet and has more class then any other musician I have ever seen.

A buddy of mine said after the show Id pay $80 just to listen to him tell stories for two hours.

You know, I wish I could be passionate enough about something, to still be doing it at age 80. When he is gone, a large hole will be left in the heart of the blues.

I saw BB w/ Jeff Beck a few years back (oddly, my 32nd birthday and the day Warren Zevon died). He does an amazing show. I was really taken by how fantastic his band is. I'm betting you don't have to many off nights and stay in the BB show.
