    Default I didn't know this

"According to Gene Simmons' book Kiss And Make Up, Van Halen approached Simmons in 1982 about possibly joining KISS as a replacement for Ace Frehley, who was suffering from severe substance abuse problems. Eddie did so because his personality conflicts with Roth were worsening, and Eddie wanted out."

Was this ever a topic here? I'm sure it must have been. I didn't know this and think this is unbelievable.

Well if Gene said it, then of course it's true. I think it was the other way around and I thought it was a few years earlier too. I could be wrong though.

That's a non-sens to me..., Eddie would've never do that.

..., he wouldn't even think about that.

    Actually it shouldnt surprise you.

Dave and Ed had been bickering back during the Fair Warning era.

Very old news. Not sure about the time frame, but it definitely happened.

I think Eddie actually played on Christine Sixteen...or maybe Dr Love...not sure.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Would've Alex join Kiss too? No.

Non-sens..., Eddie and Alex were/are Van Halen. When a change happened in Van Halen, it wasn't Eddie or Alex that have left..., it was the singer.

There was no need of Kisses for Eddie..., except Valerie's.

That's interesting. Ed did consider quitting the band during that time. I was always under the impression that it was Gene Simmons who approached Ed with the offer to join KISS, not the other way round. In Roth's book, Dave insinuated that it was Gene who went after Ed.
Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
    Bobby: Who else?
    Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
    Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
    Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

I thought the same thing when I started reading this thread. Roth's book does say something along the lines that Gene would always show up out of nowhere and "pretend" to be trying to help the band but his real motive was to swipe Eddie.

Think I read somewhere that back in FW days, Eddie was already butting heads w/DLR as far as the direction VH's music was headed (also around the time Ed n Val married - please no refreshers on DLR vs Val)...but Simmons was the one recruiting Eddie for KISS to replace Space Frehley, hearing Eddie wanted to split up the band...not the other way around. I believe it was one of the Guitar mags I read this in, years and years later (maybe late 80's/early 90's)...

Alex wouldn't have joined because Alex and Gene didn't have the relationship Eddie and Gene did / do, and Alex didn't have problems with Dave as bad as Eddie did.

It's true. Eddie had called Gene in 1982 and asked if he could take the place of Ace Frehley, because he was angry with Dave. Gene just told him to fight it out, and I heard in the end, Gene was very frustrated after the success of 1984, and regreted what he told Ed.

    Default ???

I've heard this one a few times over the years, and I'm not saying it isn't true, but I've always doubted it. Given the two bands at the time, I've got a hard time believing that Ed would want to join up unless he and Gene were going to invent a whole new animal...and maybe that's what was discussed. It just doesn't seem likely.

ED would have been a strange fit in KISS. Solos were/are too restrictive for him. IMO.
