Default What am I doing here?

I've always respected the Dixie Chicks, but I never really cared much for them. With that said, I am really digging on their new song, "Not Ready to Make Nice". I've seen the video a few times on VH1. It's a really well written song and the video has some powerful imagery.

The song is not so much about Natalie Maines' remarks about President Bush as it is about all the uproar that followed. Who hasn't had times in their life when they couldn't identify with:

I'm not ready to make nice
    I'm not ready back down
I'm still mad as hell and
I don't have time to go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
    I probably wouldn't if I could
    'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should

If that's not rock n' roll, I don't know what is.

Their album, TAKING THE LONG WAY was produced by Rick Rubin (dude is really getting around) with contributions by RHCP Chad Smith, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and Jayhawks Gary Louris, Pete Yorn, and Dan Wilson.

You can check out the song and video HERE

I seriously wasn't a Dixie Chicks fan before, but I think I might be now.
    The only adventures I regret
    are the ones I missed,
and the thought of all the pretty girls
    I never tried to kiss.

I dont much care for their music but I always respected what the said about GWB. Especailly at a time when almost everybody was deaf from all the flag flapping and "patriotism" that was going on. Funny how a few years later they can stand here and tell all the Toby Kieth's and Lee Greenwood's to go fuck themselves - if they wanted to.

I have 2 CDs and I really like them. Considering their stuff is completely different to what I usually listen to, but it does sound like they're totally devoted to their music. Heck even Avril covered their "You Were Mine" =] ! I'm looking forward to listening to their new stuff either.

We have all of their releases and my wife drug me to their 2003 tour. Politics aside, I respect them. They are all three great musicians and put on a great show. I am looking forward to their new CD.

Just picked up their latest "Taking the Long Way" and I am very impressed. These ladies are talented musicians and I love Natalie Maine's voice. Nice guest appearances from Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo, John Mayer and Chad Smith.

If Natalie Maines wasn't already married, she would be the future Mrs. FORD.

Talented musicians and patriotic Americans. Thank God for the 'Chicks!

Man, I thought this was going to be a bash thread... I'm impressed so many people here respect the DC's. I hate country, but they haven't really been country for a long time so I'm not emberrased to say I like them. The new song/video is great... Very haunting, and like Ford said, well written & produced. I've read some funny quotes in their last few interviews...

Natalie: "Just because our fans are in the red states doesn't mean I'm going to put on an 'I love George Bush' T-shirt and play a red, white, & blue guitar."

Martie: "We don't care if fans of country music don't listen to us. We'd rather have a smaller fanbase who really like what we are doing, than a whole bunch of people who just throw us in the CD changer with Reba McEntire & Toby Keith. "

I liked the "F.U.T.K." t-shirts they wore at the one awards ceremony. When asked what it stood for, Natalie said "Forgive us Toby Keith".

It really was crazy to see how some people reacted to a comment from a 28 year-old millionaire... I remember seeing all these people burning their CD's at some "Destroy the Dixie Chick's" party thrown by a country radio station... Get a fucking grip...

I hope the album goes multi-platinum...

I probably wouldn't have bought a CD from them. Now, I'll buy one just to support their right to disagree with George WPE Bush and to counter all the Bush bots.
You know the best tone I ever had was with that little bandmaster cranked to 10. Edward Van Halen, 1980, Guitar Player Magazine.

call me crazy but i like a little known song heard only once during the katrina telethon. "i hope". wonderfully written tune. great lyrics, music and arrangement. never thought i'd like them but i heard that song, done accoustically then, and was hooked. i have since down loaded the single of it and sounds amazing. also heard a bit of the new single, i may have to go get this disc...

they were also a fantastic interview on stern yesterday!

AWESOME TALENTED BUNCH! howard stern the other day was nothing short of incredible. one of the longest interviews he has done. he was also impressed and has been playing their music coming back from breaks. the were very open and honest in all answers and did not run away from nothing (including answering many questions regarding blowjobs and threesomes) THEY DO!!!!!!!!!!!!

new song is great and they played it live on GMA this morning.

AND THEY HAVE SET HIS MESSAGE BOARD ON FIRE!
