Taken from MelodicRock.com, in turn taken from HitsDailyDouble.com's Rumour Mill:

CBS Radio's Joel Hollander has made a deal with XM Radio to replace David Lee Roth with Opie and Anthony. Look for the High Voltage duo to return to the terrestrial airwaves on CBS' N.Y., Philly and Dallas' Free-FMs as well as WBCN Boston, WNCX Cleveland, Pittsburgh's K-Rock and West Palm Beach's The Buzz. They will also continue to be heard on XM channel 202. (4/19p)

Tune back for full news and page updates later today.

Still only a rumour as of now folks.

Yikes! Opie & Anthony on 'YSP

CBS Radio has found a clever solution to its morning problem: that is, the low-rated David Lee Roth, who in January succeeded Howard Stern on seven stations.

I hear that CBS is about to bring in - actually rehire - the XM satellite bad-boy team of Opie & Anthony to do a morning show in three or four markets, including Philly's "Free FM" station, WYSP (94.1).

XM and CBS right now are dotting the i's on a bold, hitherto unthinkable partnership of pay radio and free radio. Opie & Anthony, now heard on XM from 7 to 11 a.m., will continue on XM Channel 202. Times for the syndicated CBS show have not been set. It may start as soon as May 1.

Reps for the media companies wouldn't talk about it yesterday in advance of an announcement. Perhaps they're choosing to distance the news further from Holy Week. Remember that CBS - then known as Infinity - fired O&A in 2002 after their show described a couple having sex in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. O&A at the time was doing monstrous ratings. XM hired them two years later. In January, Stern started on Sirius in the mornings.

Details of a two-year agreement are being worked out at the top between CBS's Joel Hollander and XM's Hugh Panero. One point is said to be certain: It will not be a simulcast. An FCC-wary CBS wants to keep its hand on the hot button, while XM can carry whatever it wants.

Under the scenario I hear, CBS will get O&A in Philly, New York, Boston and possibly Washington. (CBS's Free FM station in D.C. now airs a show called The Junkies.) It was not clear yesterday how CBS would cover mornings in Roth's other cities: Dallas, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and West Palm Beach.

The desired effect: XM, with about double the subscribers of Sirius, would gain additional revenue and exposure. CBS would get an established show in several large markets.

By all measures - ratings and ad billings - Diamond Dave's show is a lump of coal. In fairness, any radio rookie who succeeded Stern was pretty much destined to be toast.

WSJ: Roth to Exit CBS Morning Radio
The Wall Street Journal is reporting more on what we've been hearing: Opie & Anthony are to replace CBS Radio's David Lee Roth.

In a sign of the struggles some broadcast-radio stations face in the absence of Howard Stern's popular morning show, Mr. Stern's successor in New York and other markets will leave CBS Corp.'s airwaves, to be replaced by the duo Opie & Anthony, according to people familiar with the matter.

Sweet Revenge: Opie & Anthony Will Return to Company That Fired Them
Rumors have been swirling for weeks and now a confirmation from John Mainelli in this morning's New York Post: "Long-banished radio bad boys Opie & Anthony are returning to the air to save the company that fired them nearly four years ago, sources say. [Opie & Anthony]...canned by CBS's WNEW-FM after contestants on one of their shows were caught making love inside St. Patrick's Cathedral, are expected to return 'within weeks' to...'Free FM' (92.3), formerly K-Rock...[which]...means curtains for Stern successor David Lee Roth..." Full Story.
By the way, hiring real Radio people is what CBS Radio should have done in the first place

Babblermouth.net is reporting that the duo's return to terrestrial radio will be on CBS' NY, Philly and Dallas' Free-FMs as well as WBCN Boston, WNCX Cleveland, Pittsburgh's K-Rock and West Palm Beach's The Buzz.

I gave the show a chance and thought it wasn't very good IMO. He doesn't belong in radio and really should get a band together and write some rockin tunes for a new cd.

    Not a surprise.

If Dave goes tour this summer, I guess we will see "Dave, call Eddie" signs in the audience.

CVH reunion? Seeing how it hasn't happened yet, I don't think it will. Even if Ed says yes and Dave shelves his ego just a bit, Mikey would now be an issue too. Hope I'm wrong and it does..../shrug.
