    Default Foreigner

    http://www.foreigneronline.com/video/foreigner_h.wmv

Check that out. Its the new singer for Foreigner, Kelley Hansen, singing the classic "Juke Box Hero". Personally, I think he's alright...and like Augeri did with Journey, given some time, people will eventually come to accept it, but it's just not Lou Gramm, which means it's just not Foreigner to me.

Zeppelin fans might appreciate/hate this as well.

    Opinions?

I too agree... he's not bad
Besides... Juke Box Hero is a hard song to sing.

Looks like a younger Mick Jagger actually.
And dresses like him too i might add.

Mick Jones is the only original member.

HERE is a pic of the band and some sound clips. Anyone think that Pilson and Bonham are mugging the same as they did in the Rockstar Movie?

I think that if the original singer in a band can't (or won't) carry on with the band, then it is OK to get someone else to sing with the group.

That being said, I don't believe that the band should pretend that the original singer never existed. Regardless of the circumstances, the band should always give props to the original lineup. Listening to the links to their original music (with the new singer mixed in) on their website makes me wonder what they are trying to prove. Are they trying to wipe out Lou Gramm, or just show off the talents of the new singer? I think the guy is a passable Lou Gramm - but IMO he is not as good a Lou Gramm copy as Steve Augeri is a Steve Perry copy! Know what I mean?

Lou Gramm has had a tough few years, brain tumor and all. In his prime he was a hell of a singer and it is not so easy to replace him. I hope they cut him some slack...

Well, I'll respond to a lot of you here. First, I don't think (that I know of) that Mick and the crew are pretending Lou doesn't exist (That's the impression I took from the statement, if i'm wrong, correct me). In fact, I believe I read that Mick wished him well and said he was welcome back any time he wanted...And Kelley Hansen thanks Lou Gramm every night on stage....ritually...

As for the brain tumor, yeah...it was pretty bad, from what I gather, but, having said that, I saw them here a couple years ago, and he sounded great.....but I'm also a big fan of the music and a big fan of Lou, so I considered what he'd been through, and how close he DID get to the originals, and formed my own opinion.

I dont think theyre trying to wipe out Lou Gramm..I think it's more like what was said, showcase the new talent. Kelly Hansen is one hell of a vocalist...but unlike Augeri/Perry, he's not TRYING to be a Lou Gramm Copy...he's singing it in his own range, at his own pace, and he's made the songs "his"...and as far as paying tribute to the past, like I said Lou Gramm is thanked every night by his replacement, and I can't think of a better tribute to the "past'' than Jason Bonham playing the zep songs....

That's cool - I'm glad to hear that... It's nice to hear of a band that is at peace with their original singer

Foreigner is one of those bands that had their day and should not keep trying to push it - they weren't that big and when it's down to just Mick Jones and a cast of thousands, then I think it's time to retire the name. I dug the first two albums, Head Games just never caught on with me, 4 was pretty big but then it was on to Adult Contemporary land. Mick should just tour as "Mick Jones and friends" and do stuff from all of the various projects and bands he's been involved in over the years, not just Foreigner.

Now being a die hard Queen fan, and longtime supporter of Freddie Mercury....I would have supported you fully, because anything that was done prior wasn't worthy of the name "Queen" to me if Freddie wasn't part of it....after seeing the caliber of Paul Rodgers doing the songs (making them his own, etc) I think it's fitting to call it Queen + PR. I think foreigner is about the same....not nearly the grand scale...but Hansen is a good vocalist, and while I won't agree outright with calling it "Foreigner" I think the name "foreigner" should be incorporated somehow into the title...on both sides...Mick and the current lineup, AND Lou's solo tour(s)

But I think of Queen as a much more relevant and much longer lasting band than Foreigner. If you put a Queen collection and a Foreigner collection on the shelves at the same time, I'd put my money on the Queen collection outselling the Foreigner collection - more people (still) care about Queen and although it sucks to think about them doing anything without Mercury (or Deacon), the demand is still there. I have a hard time thinking about Foreigner even selling out a high school gym. I could be wrong, though - I'd put REO Speedwagon in about the same boat as Foreigner, and I guess they still do okay on the road.

Hell, I forgot this band even existed. I haven't heard their music in almost 20 years but I remember loving "Agent Provocateur" when it came out.
If I remember rightly it had a song called "Tooth and nail" or something like that, with one of the best outros of all time. It used to fade out so I would have to crank the volume relatively as it went down. I actually got it down to a fine art.
Ah, the days when you only bought one (vinyl) record a month, with no free downloads. I used to really get to know my albums in those days.
    (sighs) I am very old.
A man could lose himself in a country like this.

Yep, "Tooth And Nail" is on Agent Provocateur, but I don't remember the outro so well so I just may have to dig it out tomorrow!

Yep, after Double Vision it went downhill. Mediocre at best
