    Default What would you pay?

It's goofy but I'm bored and time allows so here ya go.
Van Halen (original with Dave) is doing 5 shows in support of a new 4 song EP type disk.
More shows may or may not be added later based on how it goes and each
member of the band says this before the start, so this may very well be it.
    Shows are:
    1 in New York
    1 in Arizona
    1 in Vegas
    2 in LA

How much would you pay to go if you were assured a decent seat in say
    the first 15 rows?
    I'd go a thousand without hesitation...You?

    Keep te faith,
    C.

I'd prolly regret it later but I'd have to say money would be no object since I never got to see CVH live...

That's Pretty much how I feel...
And I was fortunate enough to see them once on Diver Down & twice on 84.
It would be crazy...but I'd max out the credit card if need be.
I have a 17 year old now and I promised him if it happens we'll go.
Crazy stuff what this would get people to do I bet...

Well, I spent $400 on the '04 tour for one show. Plus another $100 for a regular seat at another show shortly after.
I would have to say that I would not spend $1000 to see anyone. IF I were to spend that much, I'd have to be guaranteed a first row-center seat, plus I would also want a guarantee of a 2 1/2 hour show (at least). In addition, I get to choose the songs they play and party backstage with them, complete with autographs, pictures and souvenirs.
Also, Sammy comes out as "The Other Quarter" and they play a few of his VH-era songs, namely "5150," "Mine All Mine," "Judgement Day," "Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do," and "Humans Being" (a song from each album).
    Then, gladly, I'd pay $1000.

But without all that, I'd probably pay $500 max for a CVH reunion.

I am with those who say money would be no object. Anything more than $5k and my wife would probably leave me.

Boy I sure would misss her!

Ha ha. My friend and I were just discussing a similar scenario last night on the phone. Except his was much more excruciating.

He called and posed the folllowing:

Which would you rather choose, if you had to choose only one, having chosen that one NEVER getting the other?

    1. The Ultimate Van Halen Box Set: All the outtakes and demos and unreleased material, polished and remastered, including but not limited to, early renditions of VH 1 era throwaways, the WACF and FW extras such as Act like it Hurts and all the stuff we haven't heard, the Sam era unreleased extras like I Want Some Action, the entire Cherone second album, the six songs of the Dave 2000 sessions, and so on, plus three pro-shot DVDs from all eras.

    2. Attending a one time, truly farewell concert, only one show, you're front row center, where both singers do an hour and a half set, followed by both singers ditching their egos and getting onstage together with Ed and Mike and Al, all doing a 15 minute neutral ground Zeppelin-Doors-Stones medley duet-style, then Al gets out from behind the riser and they all put their arms around each other, and then Dave, Ed, Sam, Al, Mike, and sing Happy Trails one last time all together acapella, after which the crowd goes nuts, they retire and never play again.

Heh. Longevity begs the former, but, given its closure and majesty in history, of course the concert has to take priority.

He often brings up the original point; how much would you pay for front row center on a CVH reunion? (he's a diehard Roth fan, whereas I pimp both eras with equal reverence). Fuck the first 15 rows...FRONT ROW, baby.

Our current upper limit seems to be 5k per ticket for front row.

Holy God. Being a stay-at-home-mom, I couldn't afford to fork out more than about $3-400 for such an event. I accidentally bid MUCH MORE than that for my second Golden Ring experience (F'n TicketBastard changed the rules after my first GR show) and it HURT for MONTHS. Still kinda' sucks now, but as far as my experience goes, IT WAS WORTH IT! LOL

Squalen, your scenario is just PAINFUL to think about. At least we know neither will ever happen. *sigh*

I'd wait till they hit Chicago, and I'd go maybe $300.

No way I'm traveling though, not for any band. I did it once for VH in 2004 and my credit card statement reminds me of that blunder all the time.

Edit: I'd take that box set over a concert any day of the week and twice on Sunday

I'd go to the Vegas show but no way do I go the ILAA route.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Well, i spent @ $1,000 on the last go round, multiple shows, including the best $175 i ever spent to sit in the rings in front of Ed.
ive seen Vh in all era's, many times, so for me, it wouldnt be the now or never deal..
But i'd go $500 for first 10 rows, and i'd go $1,000 for another Golden Ring experience, Ed's side again..

As for squalens proposition...that would be a tough one. If i were to be front row, center and it was the very last-last show OR choice no. 1 with all the unreleased stuff...i'd have to go with all the music and the dvd's and all, which includes dvd-quality OaKland '81 in entirety.
I'd hate to miss the show, but the other stuff would tide me over for years and i've already had great Vh experiences in person.

    Good question though

    Here's one:
You either get to be Tour mgr for the final tour, but actually have no say in anything, other than sitting where you want and all the time hangin out with the band ...or you get to be the producer for the final album of all originals CVH lineup, get to pick the tone of the album, complete control artisitcsally, --if you say hard rock they play it, if you say love ballads, they play it..but you get to stay and do the final mixdown instead of going on tour..?

For the scenario Squalen suggested I would go the home equity route
and GLADLY go 10K per ticket....JHC are you kidding me. That kind of show is
pretty much like any 5 or 6 other concert experiences rolled in one.
It although it would never happen, it would be imposible to duplicate if they
ever pulled it off once and to not go would be foolish. I got CD's and even
a DVD or 2....Live Unchained as God intented it and 5150 without issues or
egos and 3 hours plus of near pefection....count me in.
    Even for 10K a ticket.....it's a sickness.

LOL! Tapping the equity line. Now that really is a diehard sickness.

Given a choice between a TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR ticket for the same concert and the aforementioned box set, I'd have to take the box set. 10k is too much for any one band, even if the ghosts of Hendrix, Morrison, and Joplin materialized during the encore and sang backup.
