Default Flat top vs. Arch top

Hey, I'm thinking of purchasing a Wolfie Special. It has the Floyd Rose tremelo with D-tuna, the single knob, and two humbuckers. Does anyone have any input as to whether or not I should. I've read a lot of reviews citing that the flat tops don't sound as good as the arch tops (the Special being a flat top) namely that the tonal quality is different. Who here has a Wolfie Special and what can you tell me to make an informed purchase. Obviously, my biggest reason for posting is that I've found one that I think I can get for a real good price but the others that I'm seeing online are going for a ton of jack...I'm just wondering if there's a reason for that. Keep in mind, I'm a novice player looking to upgrade from a very entry level guitar. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

I'm not going to get to technical on ya Sean because we have guys here that can do that way better than I could.

I own both an arch top Wolf Standard, and the Wolf Special. I love my Wolf Standard. Great fuckin tone, great action, and the floyd is great. However, the special is just...I dont know the word I could use. I'll just say SOLID. The tone is sick, and I find that not having a tone knob really doesn't matter. The sound is THICK and juicy, which is the way that I like my tone. If you can get your hands on a special for a good price than I say go for it. Just as long as it's a US Special which is much better than the Korean version. Although others have said different here.

I wouldn't be able to choose between the two because I love them both. But whenever I just wanna rock out a riff, or just play unplugged while I watch a game, I ALWAYS reach for the special. It's just a great f'n guitar.

    Default Thanks, Sucka!

That's just what I wanted to hear. And your opinion parrots the positive reviews I've already read about this guitar. This is an American made version and not a Korean EXP so I'm kinda jacked if this goes through. The only thing now is deciding whether or not to take the better deal on a paint scheme I don't really like (or prefer) or pay a little more for the the one that's more eye appealing to me. I'll let you know. Thanks again for the input, man--it pretty much made my decision for me!

I've never owned a Special, but I like the feel of the body on my right arm better than the Standard. The Standard has a defined edge where the binding is but the Special "slopes" to fit my picking arm better.

One thing, you can't go wrong with either model...

I own three standards and two specials, one custom shop and one exp.I like the feel of all of them. What matters is the feel and the tone. Period. I love all of my Wolfgangs.

No worries there. Hopefully, I won't be posting a copy of a divorce petition along with it if the price gets out of whack!

I've owned a Special. I never owned a Standard, but I've played a few. The one thing I loved about the Special was that with the all basswood body with the bridge pickup, it had a very 'dark, earthy, raw rock' tone to it. The Standard (with the maple top, btw) has a brighter tone, akin to the Ernie Ball, but not quite like it, because the pups in the Wolf are so friggin' hot! The Ernie Ball pups are hot too, but not as hot as the Wolf ones.
