Default Amsterdam - Ed's Best Guitar Work from Sammy Era?

I know it's impossible to ever pinpoint the best of anything, but I have been completely hooked on Amsterdam lately. Everything about it is perfect: killer riffs, crunching sound, great solo, etc. From beginning to end I think Ed is phenomenal on this one.

If you haven't listened to this in a while and even if you're a Sammy hater, put on a pair of headphones and listen to this song. Top notch, baby.

For the Sammy Era, these are my top 3 guitar songs - In No order:

    Amsterdam
    AFU
    5150

ok, ok, one more....three is too hard!

    Aftershock
    .
    .
    .
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Not sure it's his best guitar work from that era, but it's probably in the top five or ten. 5150 just has so many great riffs and licks on it, so my faves are on that album. Amsterdam is the song that got me into collecting bootlegs. I just had to have as many versions of that song as possible. The outro with Ed, Al and Mike rippin it up is just so f'n great. Great song, weak chorus lyrically, unbelievable bridge/solo.

I love the outro also- they really sound great when they jam like that.

Well personally I find the song 5150 to be his best work. I like Amersterdam a lot though. Can't stand the "Wham Bam" though.

I`ve been listeng to Amsterdamn on various boots I have. Great toon , drop d, fun to play on guitar. The corny lyrics don`t bother me at all.

With my small ass hands, I've never been able to do the intro right. It's fun tryin though. Just wickedness thru that whole tune. If you ever get your hands on the Philly gig from the Balance tour, Amsterdam just flat out smokes.

Great fuckin' tune. That groove Eddie and Mike play during the solo is smokin'. Alex's drums are totally killer. Every time I hear it I want to smoke a big fat "Amsterdam". Yeah!, Yeah!, Yeah!

Holy shit, I forgot I sent you that one. That's a great show dude.

The intro is no joke man, and the groove at the end of the solo is a bitch for me too. Totally killer guitar work man. That album gets NO love from casual fans and rock stations. I could live without CSLY, but even there Ed's work is great. Just an all around solid effort.

His guitar work in CSLY is great, the solo is quite different from his usual fodder.

What's your favorite Sammy era VH album Sucka?
