Default So This Is Love Video

I think I was about 10 yrs. old or so. We used to play whatever sport was necessary in front of my house. Baseball/Indian Ball, football, hockey; etc...

My brother Jeff is about 8 years older than I am. I followed in his and his friends musical footsteps. We we're playing something one day and someone in my house yelled out to hurry up and come the fuck inside. About 5 of us ran in to catch about 3/4 of "So This Is Love" on MTV's HEAVY METAL HALF HOUR. I really think I remember it was 12 to 12:30 St. Louis time.

Whatever. I saw the video. I knew something was different. I knew that this band was better. I knew they were bigger.

Napalm Up Your Ass has allowed my to enjoy this gem almost in picture perfect dvd form.

This, my friends, is a classic. It's cool to me that I remember specifically where I was when I first saw this video/masterpiece.

Anyone have a similar story of VH videos/songs having a lasting effect?

I vaguely remember seeing the Jump video on Friday Night Videos way back when at a friend's house. Memories of the eve are a bit foggy since it was a party night, but I thought it was kewl to see the guys on tv for the first time.

When I was 13, on New Years Eve 1983 or around there, I was watching Friday Night Videos (didn't have MTV). And I saw the beginnings of what was a total masterpiece of a song and a performance. Namely "Jump".

I was blown away. Right then and there I was hooked. I've been a drummer most of my life but I was impressed with Alex's kit and his unbelievable sound. And Eddie was amazing on the guitar solo and not to mention the melodic and memorable keyboard solo.

That was it for me. My life had changed. I was now a Van Halen fan. My brother thought I was just band-wagoning, but years later he told me how impressed he was that I stayed true.

When I saw Ed playing keys as well as guitar, it was the first time I realized you could play more than one instrument if you want. Now that's my story. I can play drums, guitar, and keys as well as lead sing. I don't let anything try to limit me. That's what Eddie Van Halen did to inspire me. And Roth totally was and is my main influnce when it comes to stage presence.

1984 - my #1 fav album out of everything I've ever bought.
