    Default Balance album sound

Am I the only one who liked Eddie's guitar sound the best on the Balance album/tour? Not making any statement about the lyrics or songs, just the guitar sound. I went back and listened to Balance a few days ago after a while off, I was pounding the steering wheel while I was driving. I just think everything at that time was dead on awesome. I've always been one that didn't really care who was singing as long as Eddie was playing.
Sometimes I listen to a VH song that was never on radio and wonder if someone else were singing or wrote different lyrics if a lot of these B-side songs would have been hits. Right off the top of my head, Up For Breakfast and Amsterdam are 2 that come to mind. If you just listen to Ed and tune out the rest, it's an awesome riff, makes you wonder if they would have been big songs with some different lyrics or singing. There are some Dave ones too, but those are the first two that came to mind.

    Default I agree

Totally... The sound on 5150-F.U.C.K. was thin.. I think the albums are great but the guitar is lacking... Balance sounded Huge.. Bad ass sound!

personally i think his greatest sound was balance but moreso right after balance and before 1998.

humans being, respect the wind, cant get the stuff no more and me wise magic.

that tone he had in 1996 was UNREAL and the greatest ever in the history of eddies personal tone!

Could it be the Ernie Ball's and the 5150's getting broken in?

i love the balance sound but to say that f.u.c.k. was a thin sound is just plain wrong. it is very very thick. the balance and f.u.c.k. sound arent to different otehr then mixing the harmonizer a bit wetter. Ed didnt change the amp settings between the 2 albums and adjusted the harmonizer.

Balance was the best produced Van Halen album, period. Fairbairn R.I.P.

As for Eddie's live concert sound, I'd have to go with the Van Halen 3 Tour. His guitar sounded like a chainsaw, and it was freaking awesome. He had some serious crunch on that tour.

Yeah, the Balance album and tour was a great sound for Ed. I do agree, however, that the VHIII live sound was the best I have ever seen or heard on bootlegs from Ed.

If I remember right, Ed was using Peavey prototypes when Humans Being was recorded. I know he was using a black one in the video...

Not only was his sound pretty raw, but his playing may have been his best ever. Absolutely nailed every song.
