yeah, some of the stuff I was reading this afternoon seemed to indicate that as well. Think I got the original impression from the way the book with the box set was written. Maybe it was that he didn't play on the track? Not sure.

Wow, yes RIP Mr. Powell, I recall seeing footage and interviews of him after the accident and you can see he really took the loss of his bandmates and friends very hard. Plus he did party hard years ago but got it together and when you saw him at a show he was very unassuming but was such an integeral part of the sound of the band.

Why? What did Artimus do to disgrace the Skynryd name? And yes, I'm asking a serious question because I truly don't know...

Sex Offending Ex-Lynyrd Skynyrd Star Jailed
For failing to sign the register...
    by Scott Colothan
    Wednesday, November 21, 2007

Former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle has been jailed because he has failed to register on the sex offenders list.

The sticksman– real name Thomas Delmer Pyle – was charged in 1993 of sexual battery against two girls aged four and eight, but managed to avoid a life sentence after entering a plea bargain with prosecutors preventing the children from testifying in the case.

He was sentenced to eight years probation and ordered to sign the sex offenders register.

Pyle has now been arrested after it came to light that he hasn’t signed the register since 2001. He was caught after he applied for a driving licence and it has been alleged that he has moved address from Florida to North Carolina.

Rest in Peace Billy. Another Freebird flies home.

Ironically, Pyle also probably saved some lives and indirectly kept Skynyrd going when he trekked through the swamp to get help after the crash. Or so the story goes. Not defending the sex offenses, just pointing out the irony of the guy.

As for Billy Powell, I've told this story before, but I met him in the mid-80s at a non-denominational church in Fayetteville. He was playing in a Christian rock band called Vision, from Jax. There were maybe 150 people there. This was before the reformation of the Skynyrd band. I remember he somewhat nervously gave his testimony of accepting Christ in a jail cell, say what you will. But it was real for him. He talked about the crash, in horrific detail, and the fact that the crash wasn't enough to change him.

Billy was always my favorite. Rejoice in Peace, Billy.

Damn, 56, wow that is young.

I can remember when 56 seemed old.

Hell, I can remember when 30 was old, and now that is WAY in the rear view mirror.

Ive said it before and will say it again, I am thankful for everyday that Eddie, Alex, Mike, Dave and Sammy are still alive. We may all bicker and bitch about the VH situation but at least there is a situation to bitch about. For me there I love the excitement of a VH concert in the summer time with cold beer and great music. Sorry to hear about Billy Powell he was a great pianist. Lets keep our fingers crossed that VH will continue to live and play music!
