Default Street Survivors: the Lynyrd Skynyrd Thread

I searched and didn't see an official Skynyrd thread, so I hope I am not over stepping my boundries.

This legendary band is finally inducted into the RnR HoF. I enjoyed the show on VH1. Kid Rock inducted them and sand with the band during Sweet Home Alabama. Original members Ed King and Bob Burns joined the current lineup on stage, as well as one time member Artimus Pyle. Ed still rips, wish he'd record and tour with them.

Also, Skynyrd announces summer tour w/3 Doors Down. Interesting combination.

    I like Skynard.

I haven't heard this particular album, but I can say that I am partial to the original band.

Yes it is. One of the best of the pre-crash lineup, and probably my favorite.

Do yourself a favor and check it out. The last album before the plane crash. Very diverse. Ronnie was really coming into his own as a song writer. Makes you wonder where he and the band would have gone from there.

Kinda surprised there doesn't seem to be a thread from the last two years either, but I guess if there was one, you would've started it, Buckeye as you have to be the biggest Lynyrd Skynyrd fans I know of around these parts (though I think Lodewjik is big on them as well). Street Survivors is an awesome album, and I know I've said it before around here, but I think Steve Gaines was the pick-me-up they needed - I mean, they were doing okay before - a few hits here and there, fairly solid albums, but to me, Street Survivors was through the roof. Just not fair that it essentially ended for them right when it was beginning.

Haven't really heard much of what any of the newer configurations have done - just hard to accept the band without Ronnie - he has one of my favourite singing voices and he was just a fantastic lyric writer and the whole band just worked. I know I've also said that people need to dig past the "Free Bird"s and the "Sweet Home Alabama"s and find out what this band was really about.

    Wow no Skynyrd thread??

I love them as well. I wish I had been old enough to see them back in the day tho. I saw them about a year or so ago and it was a pretty good show. The part with Freebird and all the pics was just sad tho.

My favorite from these guys hasta be Gimme Three Steps followed closely by Simple Man.

I agree it was great that they brought Steve in. It added a new dimension to their sound. However, I think they were doing a little better than OK before then.

Never got to see Skynyrd either. My friend had Tix before the crash. I did see Rossington Collins Band back in the day though...

Van Halen 8-tracks were some of the earliest music I owned, but the very first record/album I ever owned was Street Survivors. My oldest sister gave it to me for my 10th birthday in 1978. Shit, I remember it like it was yesterday. Man, I really loved that album. It's been a LONG time since I heard it start to finish. Hmmm.....I think I'll head to Ebay right now.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I gotta chime in here folks...

Lynyrd Skynyrd fucking kicks serious ass in each and every incarnation of the band.

I caught the performance from the RARHOF induction ceremony of "Freebird". Fucking incredible people. Fucking incredible.

Gotta also try " Second Helping". I dusted that one off Wednesday and gave it a listen. I remember back in the day a couple friends went to a show in Philly at JFK stadium. The headliner was Peter Frampton. They saw J. Geils, Skynyrd and Frampton. they said most , if not all the crowd left after Skynyrd because they just kicked ass and stole the show. I'm glad to see Ricky Medlocke back in the band. Always enjoyed Blackfoot and he wrote and sang " White Dove" on Skynyrds first and...last. real sweet tune. When I need to get pumped for a game I listen to "They call me the Breeze" from One from the road. I seen these guys a few times and it's always a great show. Glad to see thery are still out there playing. Plus, it was cool to see them let Artimus Pyle play with the band at the RRHOF after all the shit that has gone on.

My favorite is One More From The Road (Live)

Is it just me or does Kid Rock kind of look like Ronnie Van Zant's long lost son?
