    Default Footage from 1980

anyone remember when some footage of runnin with the devil from the pinkpop festival showed up or the speculation regarding the documentary film shot and never used from their 1980 tour? has anything finally surfaced yet at all from this year?
i spoke to a guy about 3 years ago who claimed a friend of his recently got a hold of 8mm film he lost years ago, of about 5 songs with sound, of van halen at maple leaf gardens in 1980. then nothing was heard of it or circulated ever.

    whats the deal!

    Default Probably not...

I've not heard anything, and I'd think that if something like that was in the hands of collectors, we'd have all seen something about it by now.

I'm no expert, but the only 8mm film that I've ever seen (from around that time, but not Van Halen) typically doesn't have sound. Someone else will know a lot more about that than I do.

The beloved 1980...there is footage of it on 8mm live in Toronto out there that some people (for some sick and gay reason) refuse to share. Makes NO FUCKING SENSE. Probably shitty footage like the '78 and '79 stuff, but still. Maybe someday they'll share....

I swear I remember reading that they actually had a full blown camera crew on tour with them in 1980, but other than a handful of TV show lip synch "appearances", I've never seen any live VH from '80 on video.

from what i was told by the filmer's friend, the footage from maple leaf gardens in 1980 was supposedly mint quality and untouched since the day it was filmed.
i can't believe people hoard stuff like this. i bet you guys a million dollars there is a pro shot show from the 84 tour or much better footage of the first 3 tours out there that no one shares because they are jerks.

This is the only live clip I've seen from 1980. It's pretty short (30 secs, or so) and is crappy quality.

Yeah, come to think of it, the '80 film has been discussed here before a long time ago. I don't get it, either. I mean, we're all fans and it isn't like we're not going to appreciate it. That's why I enjoy the trading sites so much. It's all about sharing the music for the music's sake.

The short clip from the 1980 Pinkpop fest is pretty common. It is on the DVD: "625/50--The PAL Rarities" OSKY Productions

    3. Pink Pop Festival, Landgraaf, Holland 26/5/80 – Dutch TV - very short
clip of band playing RWTD + interviews with fans and groupies with the
sound of VH playing live in background - generated with some colour
    drop-out but very rare (B-) 4 mins

I have heard about the Toronto 80 video footage, but I doubt it will see the light of day. There is a nice AUD recording of this show on cd.

Most people believe that Brad Starks the VH official webmaster has the Largo, MD 1980 video (the one that the audio boot came from). It has come up a few times over at vhtrading.

I would say out of all the tours the 1980 tour is the hardest to get good shows in audio or video.

One other interesting thing to check out. If you have ever wondered what ED has in the vault over at 5150 check these out. These are what was stored at Pacific Titles vault and are probably now at 5150. Very interesting.

    Start drooling........Oakland 81, Largo 84 PRO SHOT

whats with van halen and largo? they filmed two shows there in a row in 1982, one of them luckily is out in circulation but ive still never seen this whole show, and they film a show there again in 1984.

maybe they had the best crowd or fans for a halen show back then. i mean there are far better venues and rock and roll cities than largo out there (no offence to people from largo). maybe warner had some cheap production deal with the people there or something.

but the point is damn you hoarders! bring out the 1980 goods. cmon bradman the website is dead so you have time to remaster this and circulate it!
goto that link above in the previous post and goto the archive05.jpg.

says something about a 12/19/80 tape. and archive08.jpg says something about the donnington and osaka expo hall but the dates listed are 1985.
so they filmed a show in japan but the question is what year! also it seems a show in LA in 1982 was filmed as well.

Funny you mention Oakland 81, the link you provided for vh trading lists Oakland 81 on June 11, 81, but Dave clearly states in an interview the first 2 shows of the Oakland 81 triple play were videoed but the first 2, the 11 and 12 were shit and throw aways
But Largo 84 was apparently done by Warner Bros as was 81, 82, and 84
As was 1 concert in LA (9/19th or 20th/1980)
