Went to a KC show and survived

Didn't now where else to put this and I certainly didn't want to start a new thread.

Last night I took my wife out to see Kenny Chesney play at the Glendale Arena. Fair game it was "pay back" for our VH trip to Vegas last Aug. Just kidding we had ourselves a nice time. Man that place was packed, sold out and it was like 65-70% chicks. Lots of good looking cowgirls with them tight jeans and low cut blouses thingys. We enjoyed the people watching aspect and probably more so me than my wife

Any hoot, Kenny's stage is wrapped with this squarish blue curtain and when the house lights go out strobes cast the shadows of the band as the PA blares out this cacophony of sound effects like thunder and lighting and the tolling bell from AC/DC's Hells Bells. This continues while a stream of varied genres of music are piped thru the PA. Rock, rap Island and such. On the video screens are fast moving slideshows of different fans and friends of Kenny and i jumped out of my seat and let all around me know my appreciation of seeing a picture of Kenny with Sammy.

then with a boom the curtain falls and the chicks go wild. The camera operators pretty much keep the video feed on kenny but every once in a while they show the members of the band. But only for brief moments. We sat way in the back, just at the top of the lower bowl. I picked these seats as it was convienent for my pregnant wife to visit the facilities, as she needed to several times. So having the five video screens was an enjoyable asset.

Well no sooner did the first song break for the guitar solo did I notice something cool about the lead guitarist's shirt. I think his name is Clayton Mitchell and he's from Scottsdale, a local boy. Certainly handled the guitar with respect he's sportin' a vintage 1984 Van Halen shirt the one with the smoking kid on the front. At first all I could see was the digital lookin' numbers ( 1984 ) as the cameraman was shooting the guitar but I knew right away that was a Van Halen shirt. On the way out toward our car after the show I saw some kid, musta been 17 or so with a =VH= shirt, one from last summers tour.

Anyhow the reason why I'm sharing this is to say that it wasn't so bad going to see a Chesney show. It's not Motley Crue but like I said for those interested, there's lots of eye candy, high energy and lots of Van Halen vibes.

Kenny's band sounded good too. They jammed out Black Dog, did a John Cougar cover, and at the end the band did a Kenny-less-jam to close out the night. It sounded like a Boston riff and went on for all most ten minutes. it was a solid jam and certainly wasn't country sounding. Almost as if the bassist, guitarists and drummer needed to vent after playing 90 minutes of country LOL.

I also like Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn, and Shania Twain

Shania Twain is the worst. She is 41 and has the lyrics of a
12 year old. No talent at all. She doesn't even have a great
body... Not rear end or boobs.

SHANIA TWAIN LYRICS

"Love Gets Me Every Time"

Life was goin' great
Love was gonna have to wait
Was in no hurry-had no worries
Stayin' single was the plan
Didn't need a steady man
I had it covered-'til I discovered
That love gets me every time
My heart changed my mind
I gol' darn gone and done it

Gone and done it (gone and done it)
Guess I fell in love (gone and done it)
Must've been the way he walked (gone and done it)
Or his sweet, sweet talk (gone and done it)
I guess I- - - gol' darn gone and done it

I was quite content
Just a-payin' my own rent
It was my place-I needed my space
I was free to shop around
In no rush to settle down
I had it covered-'til I discovered

That love gets me every time
My heart changed my mind
I gol' darn gone and done it

Gone and done it (gone and done it)
Guess I fell in love (gone and done it)
Must've been the way he walked (gone and done it)
Or his sweet, sweet talk (gone and done it)
I guess I- - - gol' darn gone and done it

Love gets me every time
My heart changed my mind
I gol' darn gone and done it

Gone and done it (gone and done it)
Guess I fell in love (gone and done it)
Must've been the way he walked (gone and done it)
Or his sweet, sweet talk (gone and done it)
It's in the way he calls my name (gone and done it)
I know I'll never be the same (gone and done it)

Love gets me every time
My heart changed my mind
I gol' darn gone and done it

Thought I had it covered
Life was going great
Well I gol' darn gone and done it

Some pretty powerful stuff there LMAO. I think George Str8 has more
cheese than anybody other than Garth Brooks.

There are a few.... Some will probably consider them cheesy....
Eddie Rabbit and Conway Twitty are worthwhile. Don't like Dolly...
Dont have an opinion on Hank SR...... Don't have any Cash in my
collection, but understand why he is as respected as he is.

Well count me in as a fan as well. Guess being around horses and rodeos kinda does that to you!!

For my cryin in my beer times, I always appreciate a good country song.

My particular faves are George Strait, Marty Stuart, Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Toby Keith, Johnny Cash, some Shania, and a lot of the older country.

I listen to all kinds of music, gotta have my variety guys!!

Nothing wrong with country...just like any other type of music. As long as it's halfway intelligent, I dig it.

i got into country about 2 yrs ago, mainly because the artists of this genre dont seem to have their heads up their asses! they appreciate their fans, release albums often, and most seem very down to earth, normal people. anyone who's thinkin about tryin country music should check out montgomery-gentry. very good stuff!

Dwight Yoakam released a new studio album this week (6/14/05). I've seen him live three times. He's the closest thing to rock and roll there is in the country genre.

Several of Kenny's videos on CMT have VH shirts in them, either worn by him or his guitarist.

There's also a concert of his that comes to CMT every now and then, the guitarist is wearing his VH shirt the whole time, occasionally tapping out a country riff.

Little over a week ago, Sammy joined Kenny on stage for his show at FedEx Field (home of the Redskins). People went nuts.

On Redrocker.com, as most of you know, Kenny took his entire crew (one or two busses) to a VH show during the reunion. Kenny sang the sound check.

Definitely a cool connection.

He's the only male country singer i really like...other than some of the old school guys like Willie.

Having said that, i'm still proud to say i don't own 1 country cd.

As far as Shania Twain having "no body"?

I saw Willie Nelson in concert for the second time on Sunday. I'm not a fan of most modern mainstream country, but I like Willie - always have. Its a lot of fun to see that beat up old guitar - and make no mistake, Willie can play. Has a very distinctive style too.

As far as Shania Twain having "no body"?"

Nope. She has very little to no boobs and doesn't have
an @ss. That's why I say she doesn't have a body.

Mainstream country is not really any different than a good
chunk of mainstream rock. I tried to get into some mediocre
bands like 3 Doors Down... but after a short while I just felt
silly. I realized how mediocre the guitar player for 3 Doors
Down in and how generic the lyrics can be.
