My highschool choir was chosen to do this exact same thing when I was a junior in high school. Wouldn't you know that the ONE year I decided to not be in choir (b/c the director made me choose between choir and tennis---since tennis was my life I chose that) is the year they got to sing at Carnegie Hall. Tell your daughter congratulations. I know all my friends that got to go said it was the experience of a lifetime!

unfortuantely, between work and the fact she would rather have me take her on a cruise this summer, I am not going to NY. I did see final dresss rehearsel last night and it was great.

I think it will do her good to experience this on her own, although I do wish I could see the actuall perfomance

I'm sure there'll be plenty of footage taken from the performance. I think it's cool of you to allow her this freedom and opportunity with her friends (she's seems like a great kid and very worthy of your trust).

I guess hearing her belt out "LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE HERE TONIGHT!!!" with a bottle of JD in her hand is 'probably' out of the question....right?

    Seriously though that is awesome!

    Default post show update

final proud daddy update, with exception of some pictures maybe.

Her call last night after the performance started off sounding like she was tired, like everynight there.

but I realized she was looking for the right words, and before I go on I have to say, if your child ever gets a chance to do anything simular, encourage it.

for starters, the big 40 minute piece that the combined 3 choirs did was with a full professional orchestra. up until the day before, they had only performed it with a piano. She said 9 months of work finally made sense and the hair on their arms was standing up.

The big shock for them was their 15 minutes of fame. Each of the 3 choirs had 15 minutes to perform alone. Martin high school received the only standing ovation of the night. They were floored, they expect it when it is family and friends, but thousands of strangers erupting at then end of thier last song was unexpected. Most of them broke down in tears back stage trying to prepare for the big piece. She said she will no longer question working hard to get to an end result.

needless to say, when they combined for the final piece, Martin sang louder than they have ever sung in their life.

A trip and experience she may never be able to top.

I have always known she was as passionate as I was for music, but she got more out of this then she ever expected.

That is awesome! I would imagine the adrenaline was flowing pretty hard. Congrats to your daughter and the choir.
