Default What guitar does EVH play in 5150 now?

I know EVH endorses Charvel guitars now, but it's a different deal than what he had with Ernie Ball and Peavey. I mean, with those two manufacturers, he designed a new instrument for himself AND retail. The three new Charvels are just for retail, right? Does anyone here think he actually plugs in a new yellow/black Charvel at home when he feels like jamming? I doubt it. Those seem to be designed for 30- and 40-year-old fans with disposable incomes - not for his personal use.

His Frankenstein was his "main" guitar from the beginning to around 1984. The Kramer 5150 was #1 from 1984-90. The gold EBMM was his guitar from 1990-95. And then a couple of Wolfgangs from 1995 to 2004. These all coincided with his endorsement deals.

And then he smashed the green Wolfgang at the last show in Tucson in 2004 and his contract with Peavey ended, so I doubt his main guitar these days is a Peavey. So what guitar does he grab when when he wants to jam "Death By Hollywood"? Which guitar will he be playing if he joins Leslie West on stage again soon? Maybe he's doing now what he did with Kramer when there was no official "EVH" model - he's built a custom guitar with Charvel (Fender) parts?

    Just wondering out loud...

Well, he said that a new Wolfgang was in the works, presumably Fender- or Charvel-branded. He also owns Strats, Telecasters, Les Pauls, Flying Vs, and numerous other guitars.

I wonder if Ed went home after the tour and smashed the rest of his Wolfgangs?

I say that he probably plays a combo of his favorite Wolfgang, Ernie Ball, Frankenstrat copy, Les Paul, Strat and probably a semi-hollow body. Depends on what he is playing. Oh you can throw in his Explorer...the one that was used on Hot for Teacher.

I am curious if he plays any guitars with active pickups.

You mean the Korina Flying V, right?

...and I think the Steinbergers have active pickups...

That's what I was afraid of...

And btw, what details do we have regarding his new "Charvel Wolfgang" he is designing? Never heard of it and I can't find anything on it. Maybe it will be ready for the next big Van "we pay Mikey $50/hour to play bass live - Ed plays bass on all the songs now" Halen tour?

    Charvel Wolfgang???

Stop... I'm almost pissing myself from laughing... If that cheesy assed striped one dimensional debacle is grabbing in the neighborhood of 2500 bucks, the "Wolfgang" will be well over 5 grand...

I'm sure it'll blow away the Peavey version or even the EBMM...

I guess Eddie only cares about $$$ now... Whatever happened to waiting almost a year later than when it was supposed to come out because the "quality wasn't up to Ed's standards" like I had to with my Wolfgang or even my 5150 combo???

I know, the Charvel Wolfgang (laughing uncontrollably again) isn't out yet, so that must be why...

Supposedly this new Wolfgang of Ed's is supposed to be made in Mexico. I guess Fender might be giving him his own brand. Who knows. I guess we will have to wait and see.

I would be very surprised if we ever see a Fender/Jackson/Charvel/Steinberger/Squire/Tacoma/Olympia/SWR/Gretsch/Guild/Benedetto/Brand X/Orpheum Wolfgang guitar. Or amp. I do remeber reading that they would be made in Mexico to keep the cost down. So people would only have to pay $2000+ for a Mexican made EVH guitar, instead of a $4000+ American made one. Only time will tell. And time is all we have.

Don't know why I said Explorer......I knew that. Must be because I turned 37 and am getting senile.

Steinbergers have active pickups? Did not know that.

They should call me, I'd do it for $40/hour. Too bad it's not steady work.
(I was gonna say I'd do it for free but Sam already wrote that song)
