Ummmm, let me first say that I have been one of the guys that would rip Dave for his vocal's (especially over the last 5 years).

As far as this performance is concerned I think he sounded great, better then I have ever heard him in the last 10 years.

After watching that Dave could front the mighty Van Halen right this second if he could still do what he did there (in 2004).

Im interested as to what everyone else feels, you should watch it.

Actually I had no problem with that.
Dave sounded pretty good, and they celebrated that song in a manner suitable for the festivities. It was the Boston Pops 4th Of July concert. It wasn't the US Festival. Remember that.

Nice to see the older people have some fun to a Van Halen's staple song.

I did have a problem with Harry Smith's intro calling Dave the man who changed rock and roll.
Psst Harry, it was Eddie's playing on ERUPTION that actually made a bigger dent on rock and roll than Dave.

I was there and it was all in good fun.

I think vocally he sounded pretty good. As far as the short hair and suit, its not like he was playing a Van Halen show for a bunch of rock music fans or something.

    Awful.

If 22 years ago you told me that DLR would be on stage with an orchestra playing Jump!, I would have have said yeah right. It is sad that he is now doing Rib Fests and these types of gigs........

It's not the Boston Pops without Dave.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Ya know? I love the David Lee Roth era better than the Sammy era. However, even with Sam, the band was good.

That being said, I think that David's performance and crowd pleasing charisma is better than Sam's. Is voice however, is not. Sam had a much better voice than Dave. Why do you think they never released a live album with Dave?

That video was great from a visual standpoint but the vocals should be doctored if they're going to sell a CD.

I'm not bashing Sam by any means and actually like both era's. I've seen Sam with the band 3 times and I've seen Dave by himself 3 times.

I couldn't even watch the whole thing, but I will say that his voice sounds the same as it did before, and if a crowd can get into the worst version of jump I've ever heard, Imagine the real thing.

Would they 'be into it' if there weren't cameras panning them?

Probably, ALL these people don't realize there is a camera on them at times. And I'm sure a camera man looks for people who are already into it and having a good time rather than putt a camera on a dud and hope they start getting into it.

VH have tried to reunite with Dave a number of times. I think it's a safe bet to say that the dude simply can't cut it anymore.
