Pentagon mulling ‘stealth sharks’ to patrol seas

WASHINGTON: The Pentagon is funding research into neural implants with the ultimate hope of turning sharks into “stealth spies” capable of gliding undetected through the ocean, the British weekly New Scientist says. The research builds on experimental work to control animals by implanting tiny electrodes in their brain, which are then stimulated to induce a behavioural response. “The Pentagon hopes to exploit sharks’ natural ability to glide quietly through the water, sense delicate electrical gradients and follow chemical trails,” says the report, carried in next Saturday’s New Scientist. “By remotely guiding the sharks’ movements they hope to transform the animals into stealth spies, perhaps capable of following vessels without being spotted.” The unusual project is being funded by the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which pioneered the Internet as a platform for robust communications. Scientists involved in the scheme presented their work last week at a meeting on Ocean Sciences in Honolulu, Hawaii, according to the report. A team at Boston University have implanted electrodes into the brain of a spiny dogfish in a shallow tank. afp

And the partisan slobber industry continues unabated...This isn't the first time crazy weapons have been contemplated or developed. Back in the Roosevelt/Truman, or Democrat, days for those whose thinking operates in the party system mindset, bats were developed for use as weapons. The powers that be were thinking of ways to hurt Japan and get WW2 over asap. They developed a small incendiary device and attached it to these bats...I forget the exact variety of bat, but they weighed far less than a pound. The delivery device was dropped from a plane and when opened, looked like a big kite filled with ice trays. The bats were in the trays. The designers kept the bats knocked out for the flight to Japan by keeping them cold...conked them right out. As the delivery device descended via parachute, the "kite" opened, the warm air revived the sleeping bats, and the bats flew into the rafters of buildings to chill out...incendiary devices ignite and destroy buildings the bats rest in. The program was tested and actually worked! But, the A-bomb guys beat the bat guys to the punch and the rest is history...

This was on an episode about unusual weapons on History Channel in September, last year...

    True story:

Back in the early 1970s, the CIA had figured out that by wiring electrodes into the "Pleasure Center" of a Pigeon's brain, they could get it to fly to a specific window of an apartment building. Essentually, they'd give the Pigeon an orgasam and if the pigeon flew in the wrong direction they'd stop giving him an orgasam. So they took the wired bird and attached a bugging device to his foot with a special remote release mechanisim so that the bug would drop onto the window's ledge. Then they sent the happy bird on it's way and sure enough, it landed right where they wanted it, the device detached and worked for several weeks.

Flush with this success, they next tried to wire up a Mule the same way. The idea was to load the Mule with high explosives and guide the Mule into the camps of Central American Guerrillas. The problem is that when Mules experience orgasams they tend to stop and enjoy it. So that idea was scrubbed.

Who needs women when you have electrodes attached to your pleasure center and a keen sense of direction??
    "Suck a fat one, faggot."
-MikeL, showing off that sharp wit of his.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

"You know what's weird to me is Christians who are against the death penalty. After all, if it weren't for the death penalty, we wouldn't celebrate Easter!"

Short answer: No, not as easly as they work on Pigeons.

Are you kidding, could you imagine how much money you could make with a gadget like that? That's how I know it doesn't work on people.
