    "Of Rice and Men"...terrific book

Just finished reading Richard Galli's Viet Nam era book "Of Rice and Men".
Flat out hilarious, yet also poiniant(sp) as hell.

If you enjoyed "Catch-22" or "M.A.S.H.", I'd highly recommend it. Probably one of the best novels that I've ever read regarding the absurdity of America's role in Viet Nam, lessons that apparently have gone unlearned to this day.

As mentioned, it is indeed funny, yet heartbreaking at the same time. Basically it is the story of a young man sent as interpreter to a platoon in country, despite the fact that he cannot speak a word of Vietnamese. His platoon's job is to show the civilians there how to grow rice, watermelons and pigs, regardless of the fact that the civilians already know how to do this.

    Enjoy.

I thought it was about Condi and her boys - "Tell me about the rabbits,

If you thought things were scary now and couldn't get any worse, how does
a Hillary Vs. Condi scenario for 08 grab you?

    Does indeed sound very Catch-22-esque.
    "Suck a fat one, faggot."
-MikeL, showing off that sharp wit of his.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

Sounds like a great read Chef.

That election scenario is just too scary for words. I know I'm a woman and - yeah I know - and all but I would never recommend a woman to run anything nationally. But this is based on experience in having women run things around here where I am. It just don't work.

So faced with those two candidates, I'd probably go for none of the above if there were nobody else to vote for. Believe it or else.

It'd kinda be like George Dubya and Clinton running things anyways thru the women, IMO of course.

It's not that they're women, it's that they're both opportunistic ass hats and
are otherwise too scary for words.
