    Default The 3 (4 or 5) era’s of VH

Those that were born before ’72…Roth is your man and nothing will ever compare to it. You witnessed the beginning, or shortly thereafter…You knew what VH meant to the state of rock at the time. Some of you still live in 1985 and thought Dave’s hair was cool on the Sam and Dave tour. You also believe that VH died in ’85…but for some reason, Roth carried on.

Those of us born between ’73 and 76…We remember the later years of Roth. We appreciate Diver Down and 1984…we learned to like the Hagar years with a little help from MTV. We came of age during those years. We learned to appreciate that band so much that we even respect VH3…It’s all Van Halen to us...

Those born during ’76 and ’84…Sammy Hagar with Van Halen is the only way to go. It’s all you know first hand. Your parents probably like the Roth era, and that pushes you to like the Hagar era even more.

Born ’84 and up…You either like it all, or only like Roth because you have heard that is the only era to like, but secretly you dig the Hagar stuff too. Plus, you dig the Cherone era and you can’t understand why people put you down for liking it...it's as different as 50's music compared to 70's music...big difference for the better of for the worse...depending on who's hearing it.

Nobody is right or wrong…no other band has this history and the different fan bases to support it…

Maybe I’m wrong, but one thing I’m sure of…this is DRUNK LOGIC

So this proves my point: If you were born in 1972 you are the biggest and best VH fan! (you left out 1972 my man by saying before 1972 and started again with 1973)....your era of birth may be true to a stagnant bunch of retarted historians, but you should never ever try to group together dates of birth to Van Halen eras likeness of the individual. Not even a nice try IMO. Carry on.
    Just go for it!

Born in 70, and I think the Roth and Hagar eras kicked their own brands of ass.

Don't get me started on Cherone.....they tried, they failed.

Born in '71. Sam era is the fav. Although I was a VH fan shortly before '83. I'm a sucker for a good melody. Bring Ed and melody together, I'm hooked. No pun. I still love whippin' out III. Just as much as I love whippin' out FW or WACF. Love the Ed. 'nuff said. BTW-
I hung out w/ Steve Lukather a couple of weeks ago. We talked of Ed and did a few shots. Super cool dude.

Pretty bad breakdown of the era's if you ask me. Utter nonsense.
    .
    .
    .
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

i was born in 1968, i pefer hagar over roth, but i grew up w/ cvh and was mad when he left the band. in 1986 i was 18 and was growing up into adult and i felt that hagar music fit me and i liked it better than cvh. i still like cvh but i cant get enough of vanhagar. so please in the future please speak for yourself when telling people if you were born before 1972 you would perfer cvh.

Born in 87, I like it all, but Cherone was dissapointing. Mikey background vocals and better lyrics woulda helped a ton.

Story of how I feel! I kinda like the Dave era more, yet I still love the Hagar and VH3 stuff. Awesome thread and logic, dude!
