    Default NYPD Blue

This is my first topic that is non-VH related. I just picked up season 3 of NYPD Blue at Best Buy for $30...this show kicked absolute ass. I highly recommend going to your local store and getting this....season 4 is not far behind.

It was a great show. I can't say I will be out buying any season's anytime soon, but the show was very well written, and acted. I am not sure there has been another show where so many character changes have taken place and still stayed so entertaining. So many changes, but I still enjoyed it to the end.

Bare rear could cost ABC $1.4 million

WASHINGTON - The Federal Communications Commission has proposed a $1.4 million fine against 52 ABC Television Network stations over a 2003 broadcast of cop drama NYPD Blue.

The fine is for a scene where a boy surprises a woman as she prepares to take a shower. The scene depicted "multiple, close-up views" of the woman's "nude buttocks" according to an agency order issued late Friday.

ABC is owned by the Walt Disney Co. The fines were issued against 52 stations either owned by or affiliated with the network.

FCC's definition of indecent content requires that the broadcast "depicts or describes sexual or excretory activities" in a "patently offensive way" and is aired between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

The agency said the show was indecent because "it depicts sexual organs and excretory organs — specifically an adult woman's buttocks."

The agency rejected the network's argument that "the buttocks are not a sexual organ."

So an artfully rendered portrayal of a woman's ass is considered "obscene", yet images of bomb, mortar or gun shot blasted innocents on the evening news is not?

Sweet Jesus. If what you see on television is powerful enough to corrupt and warp your mind, then more than likely you are a fucking moron to begin with.

That would be the episode where Theo, Sipowicz's son, walks in on Sipowicz's girlfriend as she's preparing to take a shower.

I've watched every episode of that show, and that particular one had the longest nudity scene from any NYPD Blue episode I can remember.

If you watch real closely, and freeze frame it at certain intervals, it showed a little more than just her butt.

This was the absolute best cop drama to ever air on TV. I was bummed big-time when it went off the air.

I'm a sucker for crime drama but you couldn't tear me away from the TV every Tuesday night during its initial run. No matter who was in the cast (although the two last female detectives were a bit grating) it was compelling.

Of course, the Simone years were the best, but I was still watching through Rick Schroeder and the guy from "Saved By The Bell." Sipowitz made everything shine. The hard-ass with a heart of gold. Favorite episodes:

Simone's death (with that rooftop shot of the entire cast)

Andy Jr's death (Simone goes behind the hospital curtain, Andy finds the wallet)

Stellar writing, great acting, just enough action mixed with humanity

You gotta dmit, they really made Sipowicz a tortured character.

He's nearly shot to death in the first episode. His partner leaves at the beginning of the second season. He falls off the wagon. His second partner dies. His son dies. His second wife is killed and leaves him with an infant to raise on his own. His third partner is killed. He has to deal with a massive dickhead for a third boss.

Man, they threw everything at this guy, didn't they? I was beginning to wonder whene they'd air an episode where he has a full-blown heart attack brought on by all this stress.

I think my favorite episode would be the final one, where he's finally put in charge of the precinct. He deserved it.

Yeah, but he also got to have two gorgeous women; the best lines (and the best cases); and only one tushie scene. Plus, he also had a kid so adorable that one could almost go into sugar shock watching him. Even a bout with cancer couldn't make this kid less sweet.

There was a lot of great interaction between Sipowicz and Lt. Fancy. All-in-all he always gave Andy plenty of leeway and trusted his instincts. What about when the Lieutenant made Captain and Sipowicz waited outside the precinct to say goodbye?

I'm not one to watch network TV regularly and I never saw NYPD Blue when in its initial run. However, my wife rented the DVD's for the 1st and 2nd seasons from Netflix and I watch a couple of episodes with her and was impressed. Still not entirely my cup of tea but I like Sipowicz. Dennis Franz played that role perfectly.
