Default The Greatest Hits Compilatio CD Done Right !

Okay Folks We had this Thread at the Army on How to make a REAL compilation album for Van Halen Fans. Since We all know how disapointing it was to not See A BOV. 2 or How Bad The Arrangement on BOBW truly was. So What is your idea of a perfect Greatest Hits Album? Mine Would Be This:

    Van Halen Greatest Hits 1978-1984
    Disc 1
    1. Runnin' With The Devil
    2. Eruption
    3. You Really Got Me
    4. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
    5. Jamie's Cryin'
    6. Ice Cream Man
    7. You're No Good
    8. Dance The Night Away
    9. Bottoms Up
    10.Spanish Fly
    11. D.O.A.
    12. Beautiful Girls
    13. And The Cradle Will Rock..
    14. Everybody Wants Some
    Bonus Unrealesed Tracks
    15. Runnin' With The Devil (Demo.)
    16. Lets Get Rockin' (Demo)
    17. Bottoms Up/You're No Good (Live In Fresno)
    18. Dance The Night Away (Live In Fresno)

    Disc 2
    1. Mean Street
    2. Hear About It Later
    3. Unchained
    4. So This Is Love
    5. Intruder
    6. Oh! Pretty Woman
    7. Dancing In The Street
    8. Little Guitars (Intro)
    9. Little Guitars
    10. Jump
    11. Panama
    12. Hot For Teacher
    13. I'll Wait
    14. Happy Trails (A Fitting Ending tothe CVH era.)
    Bonus Track
    15. Unchained (Live Oakland '81.)
    16. So This is Love (Live Oakland '81)
    17. Hear About It Later (Live Oakland '81)
    18. Van Halen 1978-1984 MegaMix! (Much Like How Earth Wind, And Fire Did on Their Greatest hits Compilation.)

A Special DVD with All The Videos From The Era would also be included with this.

Now I separated The Van Halen ino two eras 1978-1984,and then 1986-1998 era Rather than HAGAR VS. ROTH CD'S. So the next Greatest Hits CD has the songs songs Me Wise Magic And Can't Get This Stuff No More on that. I'll post that CD next.

    Too idiotic to be real
    GOVERNMENT MUSIC
    You want it loud?
We'll make sure it goes nowhere
    So you won't get ideas

    Triumph of the swill (X4)"

-Dead Kennedy's "Bedtime For Democracy" 1986

"DLR Band means Dave, Lowery, and Ray. I named it that because it sounds more like a band than David Lee Roth, which just sounds like a person. When you hear David Lee Roth - you think of a person. When you hear DLR Band - you think of a band. Just like when you hear Eddie Van Halen you think of a person, and when you hear Van Halen - you think of David Lee Roth!"

Now For The 1986-1998 Era of Van Halen, You can't really call it the Hagar Era mainly because You have to include Cherone and Roth's Songs with the band on it.

    VAN HALEN GREATEST HITS 1986-1998
    Disc 1
    1. Good Enough
    2. Why Can't This Be Love
    3. Dreams
    4. Summer Nights
    5. Best Of Both Worlds
    6. Love Walks In
    7. "5150" (Aka What everybosy seems to have in their Username here.)
    8. Cabo Wabo (Sheep Anthem.)
    9. Feels So Good (The Worst Song Van Hagar has ever produced.)
    10. Finish What Ya Started
    11. When Its Love
    12. Poundcake
    13. Runaround
    14. Right Now
    15. Eat Thy Neighbor (Demo with Roth Vocals )
    16. Top Gun Song (Ed's Song From Top Gun.)
    17. ????????
    18. ????????

    1. 316
    2. Pleasure Dome
    3. Top Of The World
    4. Judgement Day (Live)
    5. Won't Get Fooled Again (Live)
    6. Can't Stop Lovin' You
    7. Don't Tell (Me What Love Can Do.)
    8. Amsterdam
    9. Not Enough
    10. Humans Being
    11. Can't Get This Stuff No More
    12. Me Wise Magic
    13. Without You
    14. Fire In The Hole

    Bonus Tracks

    15. Respect The Wind
    16. The Hand Fell Of The Clock
    17. ???????
    18. ???????

Okay I mainly based The Hagar and Cherone Songs on if they were a hit on the charts or if they had a video or if they were like above a Sheep Anthem . I'm not into Van Hagar so about like 80-90% on this edition of this CD I wouldn't like.

Not a bad compilation, but I think remixes or "megamixes" are a waste of time and space on a CD. Also, I think calling some songs "bonus tracks" is kind of silly considering it's a...compilation.

"Happy Trails" should be the dead last track on disc two.

Just my one or two cents.

It was Steve Stevens of Billy Idol fame. That track has been mislabeled on the net for years...

You cannot put any Cherone era songs on a VH Greatest Hits. You just can't. For one thing, there were no hits from that album. The album sucks donkey nuts. No matter how many times I've tried to give it a new listen after a long hiatus I always come to the same conclusion - it just plain sucks.

Van Halen is, and always will be, two era's. The Cherone years never existed. Where's McFly with his flying Delorian when you need him? Let's just go back to 1997 and try again.
    .
    .
    .
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

If you do include Cherone, it should only be "Without You," since it was a mild hit at best.

You'd HAVE to put the "5150" version on there from Live Without a Net. That's one of the best live versions of any song they have!

Without You hit number one and Fire In The Hole hit number 6. That sort of makes them hits doesn't it?

Van Halen is, and always will be, two era's. The Cherone years never existed. Where's McFly with his flying Delorian when you need him? Let's just go back to 1997 and try again.
I simply don't agree. Songs like Year To The Day/Without You/Fire In The Hole smoke more than some the generic lyric filled stuff of the Sammy era.
