Default I'm a believer again in old Van halen!

I was doing a bunch of errands today and happened to listen to "Women and Children First" from start to finish in my car. Wow! It had been a while since I heard that whole album. Just listening to "Everbody Wants Some"- wow. After the guitar solo, and Dave does his daveisms, Eddie's guitar just growls! And Romeo Delight! Wow. The beginning part of "Fools"- who does that? a fucking tribal drum beat, then blam- an all-out guitar assault, then the song begins- a rather grungy tone, if you ask me. "Could this be magic"- what diversity- the blues really showed on those early albums. What a powerful album. What I want to say, is that old Van Halen ( I hate the CVH name) really established the band, and there's no denying that. And I love the band with Sammy as well- they carried it on, and made some great music as well. But 1977-1985 put a permanent indentation on music- it was very powerful. KInd of like what Zeppelin did at their height- 1969-1977. The only difference is that Van Halen continued to put out good music with Sammy(although a little toned-down) after 1985, as opposed to Zeppelin really declining after and perhaps during "Presence".

I'm pretty skeptical if a reunited orginal Van Halen could duplicate such a sound. The time, the vibes, they just were unreal, possibly never to be done again.

Dave was pretty back then. One of our linkers has a studio sessions boot of Women And Children First - Sunset Sound Studios HERE:

Check the Recently Added section in the lower left. I think you'll agree, and having personally witnessed that tour, that Dave was exceptionally

Since I am starved for new Van Halen, I especially enjoyed the instrumental track. That was really cool.

I first bought WACF on Vinyl, then on a tape for the car....then CD, then the CD remasters...

Imagine if they release it on SACD or DVD Audio?

I'd have to go buy a player and the disc.

WACF is like fine wine. It's getting better with age.

Was interesting to see the divorce papers too i might add...
But thought those shouldn't even be posted on a website.

I've always dug Women And Children First, from the time it came out til now. If you ask me, this was the album where they gelled as a band. That album had such diversity to it. A touch of blues, rock, and accoustic. It showed just how good they really were and created something unique whereas Fair Warning was the no frills, balls out, thunderbolt in your cheerios album.

    It IS fine wine indeed!

Here's a funny little story for you guys.

If you have the vinyl version of WACF you'll notice that Eddie has a VH necklace on. I say vinyl because you can't really see it on the CD as the picture is too small.

Anyway, me and a couple of buddies were members of the Van Halen fan club. And from what I remember they used to mail out these newsletters every once in a while. And you could actually order the VH necklace. So we did! And we wore them for years at school. When 1984 came out and Jump hit, suddenly everyone and his brother claimed they had been a Van Halen fan since '78. Even the metal heads that had been calling VH names like, Van Halen Coverversion after Diver Down was released were suddenly VH converts. I don't know if any of you remember that time, but I digress.

Anyway, all these new fans suddenly started asking us about these VH chains. And of course we had this feeling of being invaded by the browners and preppies at school, so we started making up stories. We started with we met the band backstage and by the end we were claiming that we in fact had been given the necklaces from the band. And these idiots would eat the stuff up. We even brought the WACF album into school and would show them and say, YUP that's the one we were given, see it's right there. And then we'd show them 1984, see no necklaces anymore, they gave them to us.

Yes, I know it's very highschool.

Needless to say after '85 and by '86 they knew more about what was going on with Van Hagar than we did.

WACF will always be the "jam' album to me. Nice and loose, zero precision, pure booze and bluster! It was the true fan album. No real singles. An album like this would get nowhere if it came out these days, the way the industry is, but it is one of those gems you gotta listen through all the way as a whole.A great snapshot of a great band in a better era.

Well getting back to the topic, I can't believe anyone can go for long periods of time w/o listening to this one. I've gotta get my dose at least every weekend.

Fools is a masterpiece, actually the entire album is for me.

The pic of the guys in the album jacket is not bad either.

I agree with Women and Children First being the 2nd best VH album...however it's tied with Fair Warning!!

EVeryone on this thread my love WACF, but how do you feel about "Loss of Control?"
Not everyone likes that song, in fact there was a thread somewhere of our least favorite VH songs and this song appeared frequently. However it'll never be on my least favorite list. This song fuckin' jams. Just listen to Eddie burn!!!

Anyway, aside from the songs that have been mentioned, "In a Simple Rhyme" is an absolutely awesome song..
