    Default Van Halen Symphony???

    Ok,

So rather that continue to talk about how bad Dave's show is being recieved, and what Sammy is saying today about Van Halen. Let's suppose that either Sammy or Dave is singing for Van Halen again, how would you feel about them doing a "KISS" or Mettallica like show with a full blown symphony???

I think it could be pretty amazing.

    What do you guys think????

I always cringe when I hear of bands doing this sort of thing.

Yep, they really gave it the full treatment and some of it worked quite well, but just the thought of bands doing this sort of thing (cash grab?) just iritates me. Give us some new material , not some reworkings of your tired old tunes.

I personally would of loved to have seen VH do an unplugged album,I think it would have been great to hear VH like that.
Most bands get it wrong when they do unplugged albums but with VH's awesome material and brilliant musicianship I think it could have sounded great.
Like everybody else though now I want a new album of originals.

Metallicas (old) music was somewhat symphonic friendly,(Call of Ktulu, Orion, Sanitarium, etc ). Cliff Burtons' writing was all about counterpoint and harmonies, and it made sense that a real symphony could do it. However, VH in a pure songwriting sense is not at that level. Good VH is about guitar fury and riffs that reek of feeling, but not really harmonically brilliant epics. The keyboard tunes MAYBE, but I just cant see "Panama" or "Girl Gone Bad" working with a symphony arrangement. They are not that strong as pure stripped down harmonic pieces. You play "Panama " on an acoustic and you may put people to sleep.Apples to oranges.

Why? Sure, when Metallica did this, it was a novel idea - something a bit different, but that was 10 years ago. Nowadays its just a gimmick, another way for a band to repackage their greatest hits and cash-in on the die-hard fans. Anyhow, I feel safe in the knowledge that VH will never get their shit together enough to be able to arrange anything like this.

Watch The Who's Quadrophenia or Tommy live on DVD and you will understand why. All the horns and extra background singers sound incredible. I liked the Scorpions live DVD too with the Symphony.

Metallica sucks, I have their live with the Symphony double CD, but I hate them now, so I never listen to it. LOL!

I liked the Scorps' Moment of Glory show, I thought it was pretty cool. I think seeing it live is better than listening to it on a cd, for the full effect.

I thought it was great anways.

Haven't seen that guy in a while. Guess it was time eh??

Well just to clarify, while I said I liked the Scorps' venture into this type of artistic expression, it ain't for VH, that's for damn sure!!!

Guess I shoulda clarified that in my other post.
