    Default Deja Vu'

I've done some debating with many over the "less than heavy" mid-tempo rockers by Dave and Sammy led Van Halen. You know the tunes, Dance the Night Away, Secrets, Jump, Wht Can't This Be Love, etc.

I know that there are those who only enjoy the On Fire, Light Up the Sky, Everybody Wants Some, Unchained, Hang Em' High, Girl Gone Bad, 5150, AFU, Judgement Day, 7th Seal, Humans Being type tunes.

I'm wondering which list Deja Vu fits into? And if you think it fits into the first less than heavy rockers (which I think it does), do you like it any?

I always thought this was a pretty cool tune. Have they ever played it live?

Yup, it was played on a few occasions on the second leg of the 95 US Tour.
They wanted to release that one as a single and Eddie rerecorded (not just remixed) a single version of it because neither Ed nor Sam were pleased with the version ended up on Balance. After that they put it in the setlist to promote it, but it wasn't released as a single nevertheless for some reason.

    Default Deja-Vu

Wasn't this song a leftover from "F.U.C.K." recording session?
I'm sure some guitar riff from "Take me back (Deja-Vu)" was the same Van Halen used on their club days. "No More Waiting" or "Show no Mercy" was the title of this unreleased song, if I remember well.

You are correct. The beginning of "Take Me Back" was the intro to "No More Waiting".

I think it's a great song. Kinda has the "Cabo Wabo"/"Tropic of Capricorn" feel to it.

I was just thinking about this the other day...Does that mean VH had to pay Dave some royalties for Deja Vu? (since it has the intro of the club days tune) If I remember correctly, VH had to throw Sam some change for the two new songs on Best Of...I think Sam stated that they were just some reworked versions of stuff that he had already worked on...

I think "Can't Get This Stuff No More" was a leftover from the Balance sessions, but "Me Wise Magic" was totally new stuff for what I know. Maybe Van Halen has any kind of arrangement that says they own any copyright for Released songs, not for unreleased ones. BTW, I think Eddie's creative was very intense in their Club Days.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one on the planet that even knows this song, nevermind thinks it's a great, great song.

I have ALWAYS had this song included on any of my homemade 'Best Of' CD's. Fantastic guitar throughout, a real 'feel good' vibe to it, excellent lyrics....I love this song.

I like this song. It's not quite a ballad, but not heavy either- just a good rock tune. I think this would've been a huge hit if they released and promoted it as a single

I think it's good, one of the most overlooked tunes on Balance. Pretty laid back, with nice guitar work and vocals.

I just love hearing Ed play acoustic guitar, even if for only about 20 secs!

It is a great song, some of Sammy's best lyrics too.

Great list, but I think Panama needs to be there. For me, that song just screams 'summer' and feeling good.
