    Default Food for thought

I haven't been listening to Dave's show, but some of those have posted that he call's the VH camp once a year to try to get something going only to find out, according to Dave, that the VH's are still upset with him. What exactly do you think they're upset with him for?

Leaving back in '85, forever creating a Classic VH vs Sam Halen? His "behavior" at the '96 MTV awards? I didn't see what the big deal was with that in my opinion. His making fun of Ed for drinking too much? For suing VH a few years back for $$$ they supposedly owed him. For getting lawyers involved which Ed mentioned a few years back during another attempt at a reunion?

I'm assuming that they haven't spent a significant amount of time together in quite a while so I'm left wondering why they're still upset with him.

    Any thoughts?
I can't remember which comedian said it, about the current state of Van Halen, but he said right now, Van Halen is like a really hot playboy playmate with a prosthetic leg.

    BRING BACK THE CLASSIC LINEUP!

I can't even have an opinion on ANYTHING anymore unless it's exactly what everyone else thinks...oh and if I do it means I HATE this album, and hope it fails. Man some of you can fuck off...seriously. - BRETT

"You make music for people. Otherwise, just play in your closet. And how do you reach the most people? By giving them the band that they know. To do it any other way would be selfish.” - EVH, June 19, 2015 Billboard Magazine

"That's a load of crap. The fans know Michael Anthony." - Me, regarding the above quote from EVH, June 19, 2015

Probably continuing to take little digs at the guys when he can probably isn't making a positive impression.

So that means Ed and Al are listening?

Brett I think these digs, which are not happening as much as people here at the Links are claiming, do not mean shit to Ed and Al. They know Dave alot better than we do.

I just don't think they enjoy being around him. When you have as much money as all the parties involved do, your threshold for being around people you don't enjoy is nil.

I think the sisters can't get over the fact that they were never as big as when they were with Dave. In 1984 they were the biggest rock band in the world. They never quite reached that same status with Sam. So, I think they are holding a grudge against Dave because they know they could reach status again but don't want to give him that satisfaction. Their hatred must really run deep....

Interesting theory - what are you actually basing this on? One thing for certain is that Dave was never as big as a solo artist as when he was in VH. So your theory would then dictate that Dave would also hold a grudge against the rest of VH, right?

    Are you serious?

I'll assume you're not a Sammy Hagar fan (maybe I'm wrong), but insinuating the band declined in popularity is nuts - even for a Dave or Graver. I'm sure the boys were crying all the way to the bank after their string of multi-platinum records, Grammy nominations, video awards and unbelievably successful tours.

As for "reach (ing) that status again," I'll disagree further. On the '04 tour, VH packed America West Arena in my hometown. If Dave were lead vox, I'm sure the attendance would have been the same, give or take a few hundred.

A DLR-led VH would do well. Maybe a little better than SH-led VH, maybe a little worse. But setting the world on fire? You got the wrong decade, bub.

As for the bros. hatred running deep, maybe. I'd guess popular opinion at 5150 is more along the lines of, "Work with Dave again? Nah. Dave's a pain in the ass."

Well put. I don't think the Van Halen Bros. really put much though process into Dave. Some people can fantasize all they want about Eddie and Alex having little voodoo dolls of Dave and shoving pins into it, but I seriously doubt that either one of them thinks about Dave much unless someone else brings him up. The reason that Dave brings them up so much is that they were his meal ticket for years, and although he did okay at first when he went solo, by '91 his popularity had faded faster than a fart in a wind tunnel, and Van Halen was still selling multi platinum albums and winning awards. Simply put, he's still bitter for the success they had without them.

Very simply, they don't want to be around someone that gets on their last nerve and wants control of everything. Probably alot of hurt from numerous occassions when they didn't like the way Dave treated them.

Sort of like winning the lottery. What is the first thing people usually do? They tell their boss to go take a long walk off a short pier because they don't need the money.
