Default Should I sell my first guitar?

My friend wants to learn how to play so I may sell him my Epiphone G-400 and effects board for 550

But I just thought of the sentimental value it has...

And I don't know if I should or not

My first guitar is was '75 strat copy made by Ibanez...I got it when I was around 6...I'm 31 now...I've been hard on it...and halfway converted it to a Frankenstrat...no real market value...but tons of sentimental. I never play it, but it is always there with the others.

I said that to say this, it just depends on the history of you and your first guitar...but my answer would probably be "no"...

If he is a beginner (and for that kind of money), tell him to get a Fender Squire or something like it, plus some effects...he'll spend the same money...and that way, you won't be pissed off everytime you get together and jam...

you will never forget your first...keep it if you can

    Sentimental value, yeah, that's somethin.

But even if you modded it, would you play it much? That's somethin to keep in mind.

Sell it? Why the hell not? If you'll never play it, and it's not an ivestment instrument, fuck it. Sometimes I wish I had my first couple of electrics, but I started out on acoustic, so I still have those. But I never play them.

I PLAY instruments I like playing. Nothing wrong with keeping it, if even for sentimental value. But if you're never gonna play it, even it if its modded, I say fuck it. Unless you marry your first love, you can't fuck your first time forever. Some chicks have their attributes, some guitars have their attributes. Some chicks have no attributes besides a drunk nut, some guitars have no attributes other than six strings.

I would keep it. I still have my first. It's a real shitty black Yamaha that I eventually painted up like the VHII guitar. I also tried refretting it on my own. It's completely messed up, but it has a ton of sentimental value, and it sits right next to my daily guitar. I like having it around, but that's just me.

I still have my first guitar, '85 Epiphone Les Paul. Haven't picked it up in 18 years, it's put away in a case, but so what, tons of sentimental value.

I've still got my 1st guitar... It was a Stadium 3 pickup job made out of genuine plywood and painted metal flake blue. I played that damn thing so much the fret board is scalloped 3/8th of an inch about 60% of the frets. I bought it used in 1969 for $22.50 with my paper-route earnings. I'll never sell it!!

I would say to hold on to it for the sentimental value. Plus, it's not an absolute piece of crap, either, so you could still get use out of it.

My first guitar is made out of MDF and has the world's worst tuners, but I kept it just because it was my first.

I regret selling my first guitar. It was a cheap guitar, but I now wish I would have it for the memories of first learning the guitar.
    Just go for it!

Same here, BREW. I deeply regret getting rid of my 1st guitar. It was a Silvertone. I bought it about 30 years ago for $25, used. I ended up giving it to someone when I got my new one. Man, I'd love to get my hands on her again. I ended up twisting a couple of the plastic tuners and used to carry around a freaking fork to use for a wrench to turn the flats on the peg..Geez. those were the days. My buds still talk about my "Tuning Fork" today.

My first guitar was a plywood Les Paul copy which ultimately I destroyed trying to modify it. It has since been buried in a landfill somewhere. I made plenty of mistakes on it and it paid the ultimate price.

The first guitar I bought with my own money, however, is a 1980's Stratocaster unlike any I'd ever seen (short scale 24 3/4" neck, back-routed control cavities and no pickguard - like a short scale Kramer, really). I still have it and its been through 2 paint jobs (a 3rd and final is planned for this summer to make it less "80's") and even though its worth absolutely nothing on the open market, I keep it for sentimental reasons.

Guitars are very special, especially if you modify them yourself. There's something about even considering selling something that is *part of you* that can't be explained. I really could never sell any of my guitars because they're all my children, basically.

I'd keep the guitar and help your friend find a nice starter guitar. There are plenty out there.

I sold my first guitar, and even though someties while reminicing I wish I had it , the money I used by selling it got me the guitar I have now and I wouldn't want it any other way.

im going to try and customize the epi with new pickups, and tuners

I want to rip out all of the knobs, get a new volume pot and wire it to be a master volume instead of two knobs controlling the volume of both pickups

is this possible? and would getting a new pot make the volume more sensitive? cause on the epi you have to have the volume at about 2 or 3 for any noticeable change
