Default New Eddie interview in Hit Parader mag

Okay guys, I'm gonna paraphrase....in the Feb. 2006 edition of the Hit Parader magazine there is a new interview. Some of the highlights are...Eddie was asked if he thought the tour with Sammy in '04 was successful -he said with all the feedback he's getting he thought it was because people had been waiting so long to see them. Asked if he had any old problems arise with Sammy and he said that singers are a different kind of beast and Sammy is Sammy. Asked why he hasn't done a solo CD he believes that every Van Halen album is a solo CD because he's free to do anything he wants w/o any restrictions. The interviewer suggested at the beginning that there may be a future for Sammy in VH. This all appears on page 38.

    Please elaborate....

You made your comment from a little snippett from an "interview". Has Eddie ever said he hasn't had total control of what HE does on albums?

I thought VH III was a solo CD?

Actually, in all seriousness Ed will never put out a solo CD. He hasn't in all these years why would he now? Even though he has a million tunes in the can.

Ed is a follower not a leader. Roth led VH, Sammy led VH (for lack of a better word) and Ed followed.

Gary led VH (a yes man) and we got VH III.

    Case closed.

Yes and Dave and Sammy sang over Ed's riffs. Neither Dave nor Sam have been as successful without Ed's music to sing over. And that's just a fact. They should be thanking their "follower" everyday.

Yes, he absolutely HAS said just that, many times.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Only time I've really heard Ed say he couldn't play exactly what he wanted was on "Fair Warning," some of the solos they did different takes off. But then he said, he go back in after the sessions were over and put back what he originally did and nobody knew the difference.

And of course I think he was bummed he had to use the original riff he came up for on the forgettable "Dancing In The Street" remake.

Hit Parader was a crap rag 20 years ago, and that was at the peak of hair metal.I equate anything they write as about as credible as the Daily Star.I cant beleive they are still around.Absolute garbage.

Brett I'm not questioning Ed's greatness (is that a word?). Of course, Dave and Sam owe him thanks for their careers. But, w/o Dave or Sam, Ed hasn't faired too well has he?

I remember Hagar saying upon his first trip to 5150 that the boys were lost w/o Roth. They were just standing around saying like 'what do we do now'.

Just saying that Ed needs guidance. He's a follower not a leader. Hence no solo CD's.

Hey, I think it's great that Ed GAVE an interview. Maybe he thinks it's time to come out of hiding and rev up the VH engine again.

As for Ed not being a leader, that is about half right. He writes the music but it's the group as a hole that makes it what it is (ie. Mike's background vocals and Alex's arrangements). Plus, I think Ed would rather concentrate on the music then worrying about merchandise and marketing which were areas that Dave was great at.

seems weird Ed didnt use guitar world for his first interview in 2 years.
    Doesnt he usually use them.
unless hit parader is rehashing something?
maybe he was trying to get some namm coverage.

I said it before Club tour with Mike on vox.
but then mike would be out for good after.
